I always knew N was going to be small so I bought his first outfit in the up to 7.5lb size, he was born 6lb 15.5oz
This time I just assumed baby would be a similar size so bought a 3 pack of the up to 7.5lb size again for the first outfits, but now I'm expecting a baby of 8 to 8.5lbs they won't fit will they?
Should I buy a first outfit in the 'newborn up to 10lb' bigger size??

Es up to 7lb stuff fit when she was 9lb. So I'd go with that. Or the next up to one month item (E still fits in one now at nearly 14lb)

I've still bought newborn stuff in the vague hope that elvis will fit in them, though don't expect them to last very long if they do.
(Incidentally, I sent H out to get some size 1 nappies the other day and he came home with size 0 for babies 2-5lb - now THAT was being optimistic....)

Ooh that's interesting LM, I might be ok then
I have the newborn size too but nothing brand new, so shall compare sizes and brands.

BW - That was optimistic!!

I would probably also get a pack of the M&S / Next up to 1 mth stuff, think that goes up to 9/10lbs from memory. I have a weird hatred of newborn babies in clothes that are too big for them so had both newborn and up to 1 mth for Zoe and will be doing the same this time. Saying that, I haven't done special outfits just plain white babygrows.

J was 8lb 7 and newborn only fitted him for a week and I had to talk all B's newborn stuff back and swap for 0-3!

I had newborn and up to one month with me- J was 9lb8 bit as they are all scrunched up when born he fitted in the newborn bits (he was long rather than wide) it wasn't until he stretched out about a week later that we got rid of the newborn stuff. I'd take a couple of bigger sizes as well just to be sure.

Ella's was NB and it was too big. So for M I packed First Size and NB. He was in Early Baby and H had to go out to get him some little sleepsuits!

A fit into Tiny Baby clothes up to 8lbs and then her feet were being squashed at the ends. I would take a Newborn size for a baby over 8lbs in case they are long and/or a bit chubby!

With A I only had 0-3 months stuff which was fine at birth - he was 8lbs 3ozs so I assumed no 2 would be roughly the same - i was so wrong! R was 7lbs 6oz and the 0-3 stuff was massive on him including the lovely new outfit I bought for him to come home in! H had to go on an emergency trip to sainsburys for some newborn babygrows which he was in till 4-5 weeks.

I used first size from Asda with I and plan to do the same this time they are less baggy and generous than other newborn sizes so fit her when she was all scrunched up. She was 7lb 10 oz.

I've got H on a mission today to buy a pack of 3 newborn/up to 1 month suits which go up to 10lb ish.
I looked at the one I got in Next 'first size' and it goes up to 7.5lb and is significantly shorter in the legs than the Next 'Up to 1 month' ones, though similar in arms and body.
I'll pack one of each size for the 'first outfit' plus a few spares in diff sizes.
Scans suggest baby will be 8-8.5lb ish do I'd think that would be fine.
Edited to say - Thank You everyone!

My two were 8lb 4oz-ish and the both fitted into the new born stuff. The 0-3 was huge, and they were probably about 3 weeks old until they moved into it.

I've packed NB up to 10lb and 0-3 months as I anticipate giving birth to a toddler this time. To be honest I nearly didn't even bother with the NB stuff but it was half pice in Sainsburys so not a great waste if it's too small. This is all a bit odd to me. At least when they're prem you don't need to think about clothes until they're out!

My two (8lb1oz and 8lb9oz at birth) both wore newborn for a few weeks until they stretched out, will be taking newborn this time as well for the first outfit.

Right, the size I've bought is Next 'first size' which is likely to be too small I think now, the legs look v short.
First size Next (what I've bought) only goes up to 7.5lb
Newborn is about 7.5lb to 10lb ish
0-3 mths is 9lb to 14lb ish
So I think I need to invest in a pack of nice 'newborn up to 10lb' sleepsuits, H didn't find any I liked today so shall have to go tomorrow. No harm having two sizes just in case!

Yeh we put a couple of different sizes in just in case. You're right about next first size being small, M was 6lb4 and his feet were at the end the from day one. Up to one month would be a better fit.
