I come off the pill on 3rd February and my first cycle was 53 days long.
Because I had ammenhorea when I was younger, which showed a hormone imbalance (low oestrogen I think), they agreed to re-do blood tests for me to see if I would still have problems (AF arrived after they agreed!).
I had these tests done on CD5 of my second cycle.
They all come back fine, except Progesterone which was low. I also had an ultrasound scan which showed no symptoms of PCOS.
As my Progesterone tests were low, I was sent to have them taken again on CD22 of cycle 2. They have come back the same, low.
My doctor now wants to send me to a Gynaecologist.Naturally that has worried me.
I do nothing to track my ovulation and was baffled when they said "its a sign your not ovulating or at least won't this cycle" - surely I could just be having a long cycle again?
I suggested blood tests every 7 days until my next bleed, as that would show whether I was actually ovulating or not (as bleed alone will not prove this).
They just said that they consider me a high risk for fertility problems and they think Gynaecologist is the best step.
Anyway - looks like I'm going to a Gynaecologist, just wondering what other tests they can do to help establish if I am ovulating or not?
Want to look at it as a positive step but want to go prepared as really feel like you need to know some 'stuff' before (i.e. I know that CD21 tests will show low readings if you don't have a lovely 28 day cycle, but if I didn't know this I'd be even more scared after my doctor talk today).
**Note To TTC Facebook Group Users** - Sorry I left the group. I was getting overwhelmed with baby talk (it made me ridiculously broody) so I decided to take a break. I didn't want to say anything as I didn't really want to make a fuss and didn't feel like I was able to add much to the group whilst not actively TTC anyway. I hope one day that I will be allowed to come back! :)

I was given clomid to help me conceive because I didn't ovulate. My consultant prescribed 50mg a day from cd2-6. On the first day of my cycle, I'd phone the nurse who did the scans and she would book me in for as close to cd10 as possible. I then went every other day for an internal scan (nothing to worry about, more uncomfortable than anything else), until the follicles they were watching grow disappeared, meaning I'd ovulated.
I have an app now. I just put in how long my cycles are, then mark each day when AF arrives. It works out when I'm due to ovulate (obviously not an exact science, but I do get EWCM around the time it predicts, give or take a day).

Thanks Fluffy. How did the consultant decide that you didn't ovulate though? All I've had done is Day 21 Tests and they show low progesterone, but surely they can't declare that I don't ovulate based on that alone? It could have been taken at the wrong time of the month or anything, Just wondering if Gynaecologist will carry out more tests to decide whether I do or don't ovulate and what sort of tests it will be.
I did have the ultrasound scan which showed 8mm follicles on CD7 but the doctor hasn't seemed to really refer to them other than to say its all OK there. I would have thought 8mm follicles would have shown I would have ovulated around CD19 which would mean I would actually need Day 21 Tests on CD26 for them to actually be accurate (plus a scan to show whether the follicles had burst or not yet?).

I just had day 21 bloods done to confirm I didn't ovulate. My cycles were irregular too so the bloods could have been done at the wrong time but the fact my cycles were so irregular it was pretty obvious that I wasn't ovulating. I'm sure the consultant will explain it all clearly though and if you explain your concerns about the bloods just being done at the wrong time I'm sure they will agree to more than 1 blood test

Thanks Ally. Thats helpful. I suspect they may ask me to wait a few more months before doing anything as I only come off the pill at the beginning of February so things around bound to be all over the place. Or the fact my follicles were 8mm on CD7 but CD21 blood test results <6 progesterone they may say its pretty obvious I'm not ovulating as those follicles should have exploded and an egg released by then. Its a tricky situation for me as I had my main 'absent periods' 10 years ago and was put on the pill to cover it up, so its not like all the tests are being done now because I haven't had an AF , its more tests being done to see if the problems I had 10 years ago were still there and the results have picked up other potential problems.
