I'm just wondering what ages your child learnt to read. My daughter turned 5 on Monday and has only just started bringing books with words home. Her teacher told me last week she was struggling with blending her words and now a week later she has a book with words and is doing well with blending. I read to her daily but she's got a terrible attention span. I guess I'm wondering do you think the teachers pushing it a bit or do you think something just clicked and she sounds ready?

My daughter learned to read in Reception - she was a just turning 5 when she 'got' blending the words - some kids get blending instantly and others it can take a while longer. I remember my daughter just couldn't understand the concept of rhyming words and then a few months later, it just clicked, so what you teacher says it absolutely right.
you are really helping by reading every night - just read basic picture books (like Splat the Cat or any Julia Donaldson stuff) and also do her phonics with her daily - that will really help. You can borrow like 12 books a time from your local library too.
Never complain about a pushy teacher - you want pushy rather than relaxed though!
