over the weekend my partners 4 yr old sister came to stay with us. i noticed first that she came with no toothbrush so assumed she forgot it and bought her one. It was our 3yr olds birthday so they had cake-and she was complaining of her teeth hurting, i got her to let me look and at the back top and bottom there was nothing left-just black rot, and at the front to the right three or four of them and brown and almost at a point. I know that she drinks a lot of coke and still drinks from a bottle at home- although when she stays with us she is treated the same as our little one and drinks from a proper cup and we brush her teeth at least 3 times daily. What do i do-my partner says he will talk to his mum but im certain she won't do anything- i thought about writing to her school as i cant understand why they havent noticed this!!
if she doesnt have them out they will affect the new ones that come through- my partner is scared to get his mum in trouble or worse have her taken off her. But how would his sister forgive us if nothing got done and she had no teeth by the time she hit her teens? i dont know what to do :/??

Your partner should be having firm words with his mum!! Why is a 4 year old drinking coke anyway? This is neglect plain and simple!! poor child.
I'm not sure what else you can do but make your partner talk to his Mum!

i know its rediculous, she even tried to give our little one coke when she came over!! i soon put a stop to that. hes going to talk to his mum but im not sure whether shes going to do anything.
and that my worry, he'll talk to her she'll give some crap excuse and nothing will happen-its not like we can take her in ourselves, or can we?? dont think so
surely even if she does take her to the dentist they will clearly see that it is neglectful and report her anyway-duty of care and all that. His parents never got any of her children to brush there teeth when they were young...they have all been to the same schools so why havent they noticed it in any of them?? she has five children, ranging from 27 to 4 so they have had plenty of chances to notice!! the youngest struggles to eat a decent meal and im sure this is why xx

It's just ignorant and lazy, If she takes the child to the dentist I'm sure the dentist will have something to say to the Mum but it's whether she bothers to listen! how frustrating for you!x

you can see the problem... this child could so easily be taken off her i'm sure- and as much as i can see that it is wrong i dont want to be the person who is the catalyst to that if it makes sense...way to mess up the family. i can guarantee almost that 80% would need to come out...then surely the little one would be even more unhappy?? but atleast her new teeth would have a chance to be healthy...if we leave it any longer her adult teeth will be affected too wont they?? shes such a good little kid bless her. xx
