ok so yesterday thought it was a good idea to take sides of cot bed as one of my twins climbed out and in to his brother cot so thought for saftey they shd go in beds.

last night was fine as they were soo tired after being at my mums all day. however this am have put them down for their nap and they wont stay in the cot, they have had all the drawers out of the chest of drawers and scattered their nappies everwhere.

any tips on how to make them stay in their bed, they need a nap still and also im now dreading tonight

Sorry don't have any great tips but just to let you know you are not alone.......My sister took the sides off her 21 months olds cot last night. Within half an hour she had to put her back to bed 12 times!!!
I think you just need to keep doing it. Put them back to bed without any fuss then hopefully they'll just get used to it.

Hey DB, the only thing I do/did is just to put them straight back into bed. I did it with all of mine, its tireing and incredibly frushtrating when they dont settle but I found it does work eventually!!!

    Sorry cant suggest anything else!

i put brooke in a bed at 16 months, she has never got out of it and pissed about, sorry prob not what u want to hear! she knows bedtime is bed time and now at 20 months takes herself off to bed at 7 after her story. she wont nap in it though. she will only nap on the sofa. she pisses about if i try and put her down to nap in her room coz she thinks she can ignore being tired nad play instead..
maybe try putting them elsewhere for their nap? x

Floyd is 15 months and i took the side off his cot a few weeks ago the first few nghts he was fine but then he had his MMR and got really ill and i kept waking up n he was in bed with me so i put the side back on, he was fine during the day, i was going to try again this week sometime hopefully it will work this time. Im due to give birth again in july and wondered if he would sleep in his cot as a bed so i could decide weather to buy him a proper little bed, i would like to use his cot for bubba as its a really cute little cot its by stokke and is round it starts off as a little crib..

I took the sides off very early with both my girls as they had leant to climb out by 16 and 18 months!!!
We always had the prob of them getting up. Unfortunatly they do keep getting up at first, you just have to put them back again. I also put a stair gate on the door to stop them from wondering during the night, so they dont get very far if they do get up!! Eventually they learnt if the gate is shut its bedtime!! I know some people might think this is a bit cruel putting a gate on the door, but it does keep them safe aswell as keeping them in their bedrooms. It doesnt work for long ne way as my 2 year old has already learnt to open 2 out of the 3 stairgates we have!! x x x x

    thanks for your replies.

cldnt get them to settle tonight so ducked out and put their cots together so they now have a giant cot bed to share, will give it another go tomorrow.

I have a gate on the door but they have no interest in leaving their bedroom they just want to play and run around it together.

Oh god hun, sorry it didnt go well Im not sure what to say, can you put them in separate bedrooms or put one to bed in your bed and one in there bedroom and then move the twin in your bed back when they are both asleep? I know this is not a long term solution but Im not sure what else I would do? When my dd1 and dd2 shared a room I always put them to bed half an hour apart so the youngest was sound asleep b4 I put her older sister to bed. You could try that hun? Then alternate who goes to bed first? Ive never put two to bed at the same time in the same room!! Im sure it can be done tho! Will keep and eye on this post for some extra tips for when the time comes!!! Good luck hun, stay strong!! x x x x x

Thanks i appreciate your reply. Tonight i had to do the same, put them back to double cot, ds2 went to sleep so i then seperated cot and ds1 went to sleep, so far ds1 has fallen out of bed twice but thankfully they have both gone back to sleep.

tried putting them to bed at different times and the way they screamed for each other you wld have thought i was murdering them lol.

    fingers crossed third time lucky

the just kept running around so put them back in their double cot bed, but they woke at 8 so i went to settle them and they slept with one cot side off no probs until 6.30 where they commenced banging wardrobes emptying cupboards but hey ho its a start.

God 6.30!! I was awake at 5.15 with Livs this morning but she did go back to sleep eventually (45 mins later) til 7.45 so that wasnt too bad.
Have you tried the supernanny thing where you just go in, say nothing and put them back to bed until they settle. I know it can take up to and hour or more but maybe worth a try? You sound like your doing a great job tho hun. I admire your patience! x x x x

    5.15!! thats horrid lol

thats the problem tho, im so used to all 3 of them sleeping till 7.30 its been quite a shock to the system.

i spoke to dh about the supernanny idea, he is gonna try and come home early for a few days this week so we can each pick one up and put them back in bed as when i did it on my own i got one in bed, went to get other by which point the one in bed had got out, kids!
