Has anyone got any advice for me?
Tom has developed an irrational fear of flies. Sounds stupid, but I'm living on the edge when the sun is out and windows are open. He screams when he sees 1 and cries for ages, expecting to be picked up/cuddled you name it.
He has never bn stung by a wasp or bee,has the same reaction with those too,his dad is a complete wuss with bees too,but has not reacted in front of boys.
This is driving me mad,it's like living with the Catherine Tate character who screams randomly at any noise!!!!!
Dropped a cup yesterday,he scared me that much. If this continues I think he's going to upset the LO,who at present laughs at Tom
Have tried cuddling, reassurance, ignoring him, which I hate to do because he really does upset himself, what shall I do? Does anyone elses toddler behave like this?

We had this at the start of the hot spell when I started leaving doors open. You just have to make as little fuss as possible and let them get used to it.I just made a game of shooing the fly away, and we seem to be past it now.The more they see those around them either ignore or deal with the fly without any harm, the more relaxed they'll become.Maybe eventually get him to help dispose of it/chase it out as he gets braver.
Wasps on the other hand,I can't even think about without breaking out in a sweat.I had that many phobias as a child(dogs, horses, flies, wasps, spiders, fire, the dark, you name it.) and my parents just said don't be so silly instead of dealing with them.As an adult I found the only way to deal with them was acclimatisation, still working on wasps and birds and a few others, but it does work. With a toddler they need lots of hugs and reassurance to face what is to them something very scary.I can remember being scared of flies cos I couldn't tell which ones were flies/wasps/bees.They were all the same.
Hope he's over this soon,it's horrible for both of you him being that scared of something you have to dealwith so often.
Sorry butlol at mean little brother.

Thanks girls, yes Jo is probably right to make as lil fuss as poss,it is hard tho.
What's hard for me is i just can't understand the fear(that sounds so harsh I know) if it was bees I could understand,I suffer with anphalactic shock if I get stung-should wear adrenalin pen-whoops naughty! But I actually don't fear them, just try 2 avoid them.
Right, gotta be bit tougher and try my best not to make a fuss. Thanks again, and yes,Lola and Jc are a match made in heaven-or should that be hell!!!!! We've just got in from mother and baby group where he tipped a 2 yr old off a sea-saw-he didn't even want 2 get on,just wanted to stop her fun. MONSTER!!!!!!!!!

Hope so yorkshirelou! Did your LO just grow out of it by themselves?
Went to ALDI today, bought a fly zapper bat, screen for the door and electronic torture device-not my epilator-a different type of torture so let those pesky flies come in now,I dare them!!!!!!!
As I explained to Tom it will just buzz them,to which he replied 'why not kill them?' !
So he understands my discreet whacking with cookery books then, damn!!!!!
Haven't seen 1 yet,but I'm ready and armed!!!!!

I used to be scared of flies cos I was too young to tell them apart from wasps and bees.I do want an electric zapper,we get loads of flies.Only worried about them cos our neighbours have two dogs and there's always well dodo in their back yard.Don't know what she feeds them but any time I'm in the back bedroom it's there.Piles of it,not nice and if those same flies were there last,I don't want them in my kitchen.
Would imagine an electric zapper has some entertainment value

I'm guessin Tom can't tell the difference either, between flies and bees.I'm not too bothered about dead ones, only because Tom clearly isn't bothered at the mo that we're killing them.
When my poor guinea pig Dave passed away xmas eve,he went round stating Dave's dead!!! Charming. Hope that changes I love pets.
Your neighbour should pick it up-I know it's hard got a huge dog myself but with or without kids, you pick it up asap, hence you don't want flies or a smelly yard/garden. Poor you having that,I'm one of these nutters that screams abuse at people for not picking up pooh!!!!!
I even follow some ranting at them! I love dogs but hate dog mess-no need for it I'm afraid, plus they give us good dog owners a real bad name.
