HI
I know they all do it in their own time, but I'm getting fed up with Matthew (18m) not talking.
I'm not really worried about it, cos he hears fine and really understands things and chatters in his own mumbling/grunting/babbling way, I just want him to start talking.
He says a few words (mumum, dada, Pippy - our dog - teddy, bye-bye, up and nana for banana). We talk to him as much as we can and I'm trying to encourage talking with books, pointing things out, trying to get him to reapeat things etc etc. Trouble is, he just isn't really trying to make new sounds or copy at all. His little friends are saying things and some are putting 2 words together (I know i shouldn't compare LOL!)
The odd thing is that he was saying more and making more sounds before he started walking (13m), then it all stopped.
Anyone gots any words of comfort...or am I being a daft MUm?!!
Thanks, Juliette
Hi Juliette, of course your not being a silly mum, we all worry about our los from time to time and we deffinately all compare them to other children of the same age, its quite normal. I wouldnt worry too much, as you say he understands and is able to communicate with everyone. Im sure hes taking it all in and just storing everything your teaching him till hes ready to use it all! Some los are just a little lazy with speech, im certain its not a problem. In a few weeks time you will wonder why you were worried! ;\) Take care and let me know how things go, lov Debs xx
Hi Juliette, of course youre not being a daft mum, we all worry about things, Isaac is 18 months and he says a few things but not much really, all my other 3 were putting 2-3 words together by now and alice was speaking in sentences, I guess they are all different and Isaac is a lazy little monkey anyway, he doesnt need to talk becuase the others do it for him. I'm sure he's fine but it is frustrating. xxx
