    PM
Tuesday Ollie started putting his hands into his nappy and pulling poo out and getting it everywhere.
He did it three times and it was disgusting annoying and dirty. I tried to explain to him why we dont do it, then i tried asking him to tell me when he'd done a poo, and then i shouted at him for being a dirty boy because it was the third time he'd done it and he put his hands in his mouth as well, so i tried 3 different things on tues.

Yesterday I didnt have a problem as i watched him like a hawk and checked his bum every 20 mins. It was exhausting but it meant i caught his poo before he got to it...

This morning i got up to him crying at 6.30 am to find his whole room smeared with poo. He'd climbed onto the chest of drawers and been into them, he'd been into the storage under his bed and he was covered in it. I had to shower him down and clean the room as best i can.

I cant go on with him doing this. I need to stop him some how but i have no idea how!
I've asked him to tell us if hes done a poo but he doesnt seem to realise he needs one or is doing one, and he cant talk at all anyway!

Please dont tell me to persevere and put up with it because i am at the end of my tether with him and with OH who thinks he doesnt need to bother about it because hes out at work when Ollie does it.

It means i cant leave him for more than a minute so i cant get anything done! I darent leave Marissa in the same room as him incase he does it and she starts crying as he tries to put her dummy in her mouth and i dont want poo near her face.
I also daren't take him anywhere which will spoil our soft play day on saturday when my dad is up, because i'm not sure if he'll do it while were out.

if this makes sense - he goes in under the nappy rather than from the top...... so putting proper underpants on him wouldnt help - only old fashioned long johns would stop him like that i think

Has anyone got any ideas? Please? I've had someone suggest we use sleeping bags in bed at night again, but he can get his hands into it and he can undo zips now so they're not effective at stopping him.

Any ideas will help please, or do i need to get a professional in to deal with him?

    Thanks

unfortunatly honey, this is stage most seem to go through. i'm not there yet with Shea, but I can remember my sisters 4 kids all doing it.

I know its not funny and must be awful to clear up, but apart from sternly telling him he's naughty i'm not sure what else I can say.

I do feel for you honey, I really do

    What a complete nightmare.
But its very common - I know not much help.My mum tells me about my brother ( when he was a toddler) who is now 40 doing this and one time she went to get him after a nap and found poo spread all up the walls. He then told her that teddy did it !! He still doesn't live it down.

I just had a look on the net and one website suggested cool showers - I know that sounds cruel but they are not talking ice cold just cooler then normal which makes the los realise its not a nice thing- rather than a lovely warm bath.
    I have posted a link.
Grrr taking me ages to post as eve keeps pressing all the keys on my lap top.Hope the link works and the cool shower idea works. :\)

Arrgh, Stephe, what a nightmare... And what a mess to keep clearing up.

Have you thought about trying some snug fitting wraps from reusable nappies?? I use my wraps over disposables on the odd occasions I have to use them because Izaak simply shreds the outer layer. You can adjust the poppers to ensure a snug fit... They're pretty cute too - check out starbunz ones although my motherease airflow wraps are a tighter fit.

Oh yuck, poor you. Would duct tape help to keep the nappy on? And I was also going to suggesst reusable nappy wraps to go over the nappies to help keep him from getting in.

how about putting tights or leggings on him to keep him away from the nappy? I know its a bit girly but its gotta be better than him getting in the nappy.

Does he do it when he's having his nappy changed too? I only ask cause I know my friend makes her 2 year old put his hands on his head during nappy changes to stop him diving into the nappy. Not sure if she's had the poo flinging problem though - will ask her and see what she did

Hope you can get him out of the habit soon

have you tried him in a pair of dungerees? It might make it a bit harder for him to get to his nappy?

Have you tried turning the sleeping bag inside out so that your LO can'f undo the zips? My 17 month old has been able to undo the zips for a couple of months now but can't if we turn it inside out. In fact, it's sometimes even tricky for me to undo it!!

I think campbelly's idea is good and the lady who mentioned the dungarees. Or even a sleeping bag on back to front? Other than that I dont know what to suggest. I'm sure it will pass at some point but I can understand how frustrating this must be. I hate it when Charlotte does this when changing her nappy and gets poo on her fingers.

Can't think of anything else that hasn't already been suggested, but if you want to try putting a nappy wrap over them, like MrsJoJo suggested, let me know. I'm not using my reusables anymore so if you want to try them, I'll post you the wraps.

Thanks for all the replies ladies.

I tried an all in one last night and it did stop him from getting at the poo, but also there was no evidence that he had tried to get at it either.

He's gone to nursery today and they've been warned so they can keep an eye on him. He's got dungarees on but he can get into them easier than his jeans.... I'm hoping they will keep a eye on him as he's in the big room today and they are a bit busy in there...

have talked to OH last night and he said that we should give an intensive potty training a try and if it works it works, if it doesnt we've got a messy carpet
at least that way I'm in control of the mess rather than having it sprung on me...
if the potty training doesnt work though we'll have to see what he does and where we can go to from there....

My dad is bringing his vax up so we can shampoo the carpet if it needs it.
I did give him a cool shower yesterday morning coz it was the only way i could clean it up, i didnt know it was recommended but will do it again if need be.

If it doesnt work we will bear i mind the wraps, thanks for the offer BH.

If the potty training does work we'll have to get him some pants - me thinks we should take him shopping and let him choose them!

hi hun how old is ollie? my son went through exactly the same thing.
We really were at the end of our tether with it, so decided that we would take him out of nappies and see if he was doing it because he didnt like being in them any more. He has never worn them since. Obviously this will depend if you think your son is ready x
