OMG, I freak out about this all the time. We don't really know any kids in the same age group in our area so we don't really get to go to play dates, except my friends boy but he's quite poorly most of the time.
We just can't afford nursery for either of the girls and I really worry about her making friends. We've just got rid of our car so we are doing a lot more walking and the girls took their 1st bus trip last week which they really enjoyed.
We try to make sure they get out as much as possible, to a variety of places so they had got quite patient with the car journey to places. We mix it up a bit from parks, petting zoo's, sealife centres, play centres, that sort of thing.
Next weekend they are going to take their 1st ever train ride too so that should be a fun one for them, especially with a mix of countryside and city views.
I'd love to hear some suggestions of places to socialise with kiddies. Especially kids with an age gap. The girls love play centres but some of them section the kids by age which means I can't watch both of them as they aren't in the same area and means I can't take them in the week when Lee is at work which annoys me a bit as it makes me feel a bit rubbish for not managing on my own.
I've also just found a nursery round the corner that will let the girls attend sessions on an as and when basis so if we have extra money one week they can go for a few hours but they don't have to attend every week which is awesome. With 2 girls most nurseries want a minimum of a full day session every week so it would cost us £68 a week for the girls to interact with other kids and I'm never greedy when it comes to the girls but we just don't have that spare.
I have taken Mia to a few play groups in the past but I've found even the ones that you pay for only last 45 minutes which seems incredibly short when the kids have started enjoying themselves. I'd rather pay a bit more for longer.
OMG, I sound like a grumpy pants. Sorry, I'm really not but it is so hard to find somewhere for young kids to play that is safe and clean and makes you feel at ease.
