My son is 16 months and his bum is really breaking down regularly. I always think another tooth is coming through but nothing. There is one bit thats getting pretty bad although I change his nappy often, good clean and cream. Iv tried sudocreme and bepanthan but no difference. Iv been letting him run around for 1/2 hour before bed with no nappy on too.

    Any suggestions would be great

Metanium was suggest to me on here a while ago when max ended up with open sores on his bum during a bad patch and it worked WONDERS!!!!! You only need a tiny DAB of it - now on justa pink bum I use Sudacrem but if it gets worse the metanium goes on and within one nappy change it is like a totally different bum!

    Highly recommened!

    Aw poor boy
    metanium...its bloody marvellous
I use it overnight mostly if cole needs it and it usually does the trick

Just have a towel or something ready to wipe your fingers as its yellow and sticky and stains

Like the others said Metanium is good for a very sore bottom.
If his bum is really bad I would take him to your gp and they might prescribe something stronger. You don't want it to get infected.

Thanks for your replies. I was starting to think he was allergic to either nappy, wipes or cream so changed the whole lot yesterday and quess what, a little tooth popped through over night and discovered it this morning.

Im definately going to buy the Metanium cream but where can I get it?

You can get it at most supermarkets, Boots, Superdrug. Only use a very small amount though when applying. You should be able to see the texture of the skin thru the cream.

I just got it in asda on the shelves with other nappy creams not even from the pharmacy - it is in a yellow box with purple writing - guess most supermarkets probably do it!

Have used metanuim successfully for quite a few months, however about 3 weeks ago Philips bum was awful even with using metanium, plain water, frequent nappy changes etc. It was so bad we took him to Dr, saw practice nurse who presecribed Timodine cream but said if it didn't seem to help try straighforward Zinc & Caster Oil, fantastic stuff!!! used the Timodine for a couple of days which helped but as it's hydrocortisone based i didn't want to use it for too long so after 2 days used the zinc which cleared it really quickly. Now use it every nappy change and touch wood have had no problems, even with the 3 molars popping through, plus 2 bottom front teeth that are trying to make an apperance this week. Copious amounts of dribble everywhere!

Fingers crossed you get it sorted soon, it must be really painful for them

The best thing to clear up nappy rash & what I have been told that they use in hospitals is metanium, sudacreme & plain vaseline mixed together in equal parts. My newborn suffered from terrible nappy rash for a while & I tried everything on its own & it was only when the mw suggested this & I mixed it that it cleared up

Hope his wee bum is much better now Denise! 16months how time flys eh. I was recommended Metanium, works wonders, but as someone mentioned, only a really small amount, don't plaster it on like sudacreme!
