My son is now 25 months old and I was wondering when other people put their little ones into a bed?

I have 2 daughters who went into a bed at 2 1/2 no problem but my son is a chimp and I can already see this been fun!

He is a big lad for his age so is outgrowing the cot and has had the toddler bed in his bedroom since he was born so is used to seeing it.

I was thinking now might be a good time with the summer holidays and then I'm not too concerned about late nights. However, my hubby thinks we should wait until he's a bit older when you can reason with him a little better and my mum says keep him in his cot for as long as you possible can.

I was just going to take the cot down completely and go for it but should I leave it up for a while and see how things go?

    Any suggestions?

Terrible isn't it I've had two kids and just got on with it and now number 3 comes along I'm questioning myself about everything!

Cor you're good. I must admit it will make it easier for my back cos he is a big lad and I suffer with my back and lifting him in and out doesn't help.

my son was about 20months when we took sides off cot. I was dreading it as I thought how on earth will I keep him in bed!!

but we bought a bed guard as he has a solid wood floor and he's nearly 3 now and rarely climbs out of his own bed, even in the morning he just calls until one of us comes in and gets him!! lazy boy!!

I remember both of my daughters doing that, they never moved from the bed until we went in to get them they were soo good. I just can't see it happening with this little monkey, he loves running into his sisters room and waking them up! I guess I could always put a stair gate on his door.

My son has been in his toddler bed for 2weeks now, he is 19months old. He loves it! he takes a few books to bed and will 'read' them until he falls asleep he gets up in the morning any time from 6.30 to 7.30 and just plays in his room, if he gets bored he goes and knocks on his door so we go and get him but we're usually up at this time anyway, just lazing around listening to him! I was really wary of doing it but i have absolutely no regrets infact i'm so pleased that we jut did it!

    Good luck!!

we first tried toby in a bigs boys bed just after 2 but after a few night with not staying in put him back in his cot.we tried again 2 weeks ago(28 months) and have only had to put him back to bed twice.we made a big fuss about him being a big boy and sleeping in a bed like his brother and sister and he loves his bed .we leave a box of toys/books at the end of the bed and when he wakes up he plays till we get up

My LO is 17 months and we took the sides off the cotbed last week. We've had no problems with her so far, in fact she adores being in a bed and takes herself off to bed at about 6pm or earlier every night now and gets up at around 8:30/9am of a morning.

We haven't used a safety rail on the sides and up to now (although I know its early days) she hasn't got in and out or fell etc. When she wakes of a morning she shouts us and waits till we answer before she gets up.

My 2 nephews, however, were both over 2years when they went into a bed so I guess it's just when you think they are ready!

Thank you everyone for all your advice.

Hubby and myself have decided to wait a little longer before we put our son into a bed.

He will start pre school in September and no doubt will be shattered of an afternoon and be in need of a nap, I think it will be easier all round with a cot at the moment to ensure he definately has his naps and doesnt mess around.

Maybe in a few months time we will look at the situation again.

Hi, just to add my two pence. I think it depends on your lo. Yours sounds a bit like mine and we decided to wait until next month, when he is 3 before putting him in a bed. We are thinking along the same lines as your hubby, that he is now getting much easier to reason with. I can see my daughter who is now 17 months going in to a bed much earlier so, yep, think it depends on your lo's nature. x
