Trying to conceive

I've just brought my first bottle of 400mcg folic acid to start taking now for when I come off the pill in 9 days time (eekk!!)
However I've just noticed the vitamin I've been taking for years already contains 200mcg of folic acid. Am I ok to take both or is it dangerous to take too much?

If your bmi is over 30 or you have had losses or you suffer from things like crohns or other chronic illnesses then you need to take 5mg of folic acid which has to be prescribed by gp

Stick to 400mg, or take your multivitamin until you run out and just eat foods which are high in folic acid, then start taking your 400mg folic acid. Now and again an extra bit doesnt hurt, but I dont think its advised long term, unless the things which CP have outlined apply to you. x

I have to take 5mg Folic acid due to having crohns and the doc also suggested I take a ttc multivitamin as well (which would also contain 400micrograms of folic acid) - she didn't think it would be a problem so you should be OK
ETA I'm very new to this so feel free to ignore me!
