Are you meant to take this when you TTC or just when you get a BFP?

It's advised to take when TTC, or even before so you'll have been taking it about 3 months before getting pg.
I never post on this board, but I felt I had to reply to this! Eek!!

I never even knew it was here (you learn something new everyday)
I got those pregnacare ones last time, can you take them when you are TTCing?

I believe so, although I just had the cheapy own brand folic acid from the supermarket, then started on something with vitamins etc in once I was pg (MrDD bought me some from where he gets his vitamins from, although have pregnacare now they've ran out) I did see something about them being quite cheap in Superdrug I think at the moment.

i took the pregnacare conception pills and they contain the right amount of folic acid,

I just took the cheapo folic acid. Get MrK some zinc supplements too, I swear this is what made the difference when we were trying for E.

I took pregnacare from before our treatment and still taking it now.
The folic acid is really important when the embryo changes from a ball of cells to a tube structure. That normally happens about 20dpo so when a lot of people are just getting their BFP. Whilst they say start taking it as soon as you find out, it is often a bit redundant by then!
Does no harm though to take it when not pregnant.
Folic acid is v cheap alone. I'd take it like that until you get a BFP then upgrade to a pregnancy multivitamin. Also the boots own conception and pregnancy multivitamin are much more reasonable than pregnacare! My mum bought me 6 boxes - hence why I'm still taking it! I'll probably swap to boots when I run out.

Others have said already but yes, you should be taking folic acid for at least 3 months before falling pregnant. Any of the pregnancy related multivitamins will contain the correct dose of FA but you can take it on it's own too.
