just wondering if anyone has tried fertility acupuncture? I had it recommended to me by a friend but in always a little sceptical over these things and I know it could work out expensive.
im currently on CD2 and away for a week so is acupuncture ok to start mid cycle too?
thank you x

A friend of mine did - she was trying for a year to fall pregnant, her doctors had checked her and her husband out - they called it unexplained infertility - basically that they had no idea why she wasn't falling pregnant, and she had a few sessions of the fertility acupuncture, and she fell pregnant. When she decided to have baby 2, she tried again for ages, had the acupuncture again and fell! It really worked for her. No idea how, but it did!

Wow that's really good to know, thank you!
will definitely look into it now!

I had my first acupuncture treatment yesterday. I wasn't sure what to expect but the needles were tiny so that was good! She told me acupuncture is good for fertility and ivf as it helps reduce stress and put the body in balance. It helps blood flow to the uterus and overies creating better quality eggs and healthy lining in the womb.
I had needles in my foot and hand to help circulation and my abdomen felt really heavy which is apparently good.
She recommended more protein in my diet and to get some co-enzyme q10 and omega oils.
We had a good chat about stress at work, which she said was important to talk about and allows her to concentrate on what areas to look at. We'll see what happens!

Thanks for your reply vikster, I'm really keen to get some sessions booked up now. Do you know if it matters when about sun your cycle you start? I will be mid cycle when I get home and free to book some in.
keep me updated with your progress, sounds really good!

She didn't say anything about where I was in my cycle being important. She did say I'll probably only need a few sessions so I'm hoping for good results!
Do make sure you find someone who specialises in fertility. Google Zita West.
She's now on holiday so next session isn't until 19th September. I'll keep you updated and let me how you get on. X

Thank you, I'm away this week and my wifi is very limited whilst I'm away but back next week so I will get googling properly then!
sounds very positive that you won't need many sessions too, fingers crossed for you!!

The good news is that after not ovulating since June, I got my period today! Two weeks after my first session. I felt really heavy and achy in my abdomen for 48hrs afterwards. So pleased the acupuncture has got me ovulating again. Acupuncturist said it can take several sessions to get a cycle back on track but she was really glad it's happened straight away.
Had the second session today. Put needles in my right leg, left hand and head today. Didn't get a heavy feeling this time, just tingles and a feeling of electricity running down my leg.
Going to go for fortnightly sessions going forward to help destress. Had a good chat about fertility and feeling a lot better today.
Have you booked any sessions chezzad?

Hey vikster, thanks for the update. That's so great it's gotten your cycles back on track!
i haven't booked any yet as the lady I enquiries with was away until next week and I will be mid cycle so just wanted to see how this one goes. Would be lovely if I could say I didn't need it at the end of this cycle but will definitely look into it if af does show up.
so pleased it's working for you, all I've heard is good things from acupuncture! Xx

I got some info from my acupuncturist (mostly about preparing for IVF but some general info too), which I thought would be useful to share:
Limit the amount of time spent sitting at a desk / computer as this restricts blood flow
Co-enzyme Q10 plays a vital role in egg production, fertilisation and implantation
Keep your lower back and abdomen warm, particularly leading up to egg collection and between egg collection and transfer. Use a hot bag, hot water bottle, moxa stick or your hands. Do not use heat after embryo transfer
Visualisation is very important at every stage of IVF. There are so many hurdles to overcome. Try not to allow yourself to slip into anxiety or negative thinking. At each stage of treatment, visualise what is happening in your body – the follicles growing, the eggs maturing, the womb lining thickening, the embryos implanting.
Good breathing technique also helps to circulate oxygen around the body and into the reproductive organs.
Stay relaxed and take each day as it comes. Anxiety and stress releases adrenaline into your blood stream. Spend some time each day sitting quietly and breathing deeply. Banish negative thoughts as they arise.
Repeat positive affirmations out loud: ‘my eggs are growing, ripening and maturing; my eggs are of good quality; my womb lining is growing thick’. Imagine sending oxygen to your womb lining, helping it to grow. Visualise your eggs growing. Focus on how you want your body to respond.
A recent study has shown that women who had acupuncture before and after embryo transfer had a 42% success rate per cycle compared to 26% amongst those who did not. Studies also support the contribution that relaxation can make to improving conception rates.
Try to spend 15 minutes every morning and evening visualising what is happening inside your womb - your ovaries healing, the swelling reducing, the womb lining thickening and the thick red blood flow, the embryos floating safely, the cells dividing, the embryos embedding in the thick endometrium.
Colour can help to enhance your mood and balance your body. Different colours are linked to the chakras or energy centres of the body. Blue is relaxing and orange is particularly helpful around the time of transfer. Surround yourself with these colours using blankets, scarves and flowers.

Thanks vikster that's really good to know, especially as I work in an office so sat at a desk most of the day!
i heard about the warm abdomen thing so I have been using a hot water bottle. Was hoping to get a positive opk this morning but no such luck yet!
will definitely try the visualising thing too. we had an argument on Monday so I hope the stress of that hasn't affected my ovulation.
do you feel any different from your sessions?
30/09/2015 at 16:38
Hey vikster how are you getting on?
30/09/2015 at 19:33
Hi Chezzad, thanks for asking. Got my third session coming up on Saturday, which is mid cycle so should be just when I'm ovulating. Hoping this timing means I'll be relaxed and help any eggs get fertilised and stick.
Have you booked any sessions yet?

Fingers crossed for you!! I haven't done yet, I definitely will if I'm not successful this cycle, I know I said that last time but really mean it now!! I'm currently 2dpo and a mixture of positive and worried!!
ive read nothing but good things on acupuncture, wishing you lots of luck!
30/09/2015 at 20:45
Thanks. Hoping this your month too x

I had my third session this morning. Needles in both feet and all along my right leg and knee with a couple in my right hand. Had some heavy cramps in my abdomen and felt something in my right leg. Started with a headache which was gone by the end of the session.
Also had a heat lamp on my abdomen which made me nice a toasty! If I haven't already hoping it helps me ovulate again.
03/10/2015 at 14:32
Hey vikster thanks for the update, that sounds really good. It sounds really promising that you're feeling changes to your body too.
Hoping you get your ovulation soon. That heat lamp sounds dreamy!!
03/10/2015 at 15:08
Hi Chezzad, yeah this afternoon felt some more cramping. I'm definitely feeling something going on inside me each time I go. My hubby thinks it's a bit 'hippy-dippy' but you have to try it to believe it.
I enjoyed the heat lamp and she said she'll do more next time on my back.
She also recommended some ginger as I get cold hands/feet to help keep me warm i.e. ginger in stir fry and ginger tea.
Where are you in your cycle? I'm cd15.
03/10/2015 at 19:00
I'm currently 5dpo so i'm on the 2 week wait. I ovulated on cd27 this month which is a few days later than last month but I'm staying positive!!

Hi Vikster how's things? I've got my first acupuncture session on Friday, I'm quite excited!
