Following the announcement that The Mumdrum is joining MadeForMums, I wanted to introduce you to Helen Brown, the MadeForMums Community Manager. Helen has worked at MadeForMums for 2 years and has already overseen the successful integration of Baby Expert into MadeForMums. Previously she worked for Mumsnet for 6 years, so she has a wealth of experience and knowledge that we can tap into.
She is looking forward to ‘meeting’ The Mumdrum forum members and is keen to hear your questions, concerns and any suggestions you may have about the move to MadeForMums.
So please jump in….

Hello hello! I'm here and looking forward to 'meeting' you all - and (trying to) answer any questions you may have about Sarah's announcement.
The MadeForMums forum is a very friendly and welcoming place – and we really want all of you to feel you're properly at home with us when the move happens.
So please do feel free to ask me anything!
13/05/2015 at 13:24
Hi Helen! Can you share with us your plans to 'integrate' the Mumdrum community into MadeForMums on a practical level? I suppose my first thought is that I don't see any announcements over there about the impending merge?
13/05/2015 at 13:29
I should add that I see this move as quite a positive thing - we've been very quiet over here on MD for some time now so the idea of new people to 'meet', share our stories with in addition to bringing across some of the things we do over here (i.e. daily threads) excites me however I'd like to first know that those things would be welcomed over on MadeForMums?
13/05/2015 at 14:21
Hi tayto. Lovely to 'meet' you. So glad you see the move as a positive thing.
Ok, about your questions.
We ABSOLUTELY have plans to welcome all of you over there!
You actually beat me by half an hour so so but I've just put up a thread announcing the plan, and later on, when the move actually happens, we'll have a special thread welcoming you all and, hopefully, generally making you feel right at home.
Obviously, it'll may all take a little getting used to at first – we're a bit less green and a bit more yellow/pink, for example - but I can guarantee that everything I can see you folks posting about over here is pretty much exactly what everyone like to post about over there, so I think we're all pretty similar really.
And don't worry: as we're moving over all your threads, just as they are, no one's going to expect you to leave the threads you know and love, and dive into the MFM Chat straightaway. Of course, we'd LOVE it if you did dive in but it's not something you have to do if you don't want to.
I'm pretty sure everyone on MFM Chat will be super-welcoming to any Mumdrum folk, come the day (they really are a lovely lot).
Hope that answers your Qs. If not, just shout!

I won't be joining you over on madeformums.. Is there a way to delete all my threads before they are transfered please. Thanks
13/05/2015 at 14:30
Oh, I'm really sorry to hear that, Chocolate Cupcake.
Would you mind telling us why? We can take it!
13/05/2015 at 14:37
I feel that its pretty sneaky what MD have done we have been asking for months about what is happening to the MD and nothing about being sold off has been mentioned just vague answers.
I had a look at your forum and it does appear to be busier than here but you have so many sections for just Baby talk like Twins and baby are two I can think of at the top of my head.. Do you really need to separate that? You don't seem to have closeness on here there where we all know each others stories and where we are.
It would be interesting for you to post how many active members you have.
13/05/2015 at 14:50
Hi CC - I'm sorry that we weren't able to share this news with you earlier. I have been very keen to update everyone, but contractually I wasn't able to do this until our cutover plan and communications plan were signed-off. I e-mailed the Panels this morning with an update, shortly before making the announcement in the forums.
You are such a supportive member of this forum, we would love to see you move across to MadeForMums.
I'll let Helen respond to your other points.
13/05/2015 at 15:09
Thanks for replying Chocolate Cupcake. You're right that the MadeForMums forum is busier than here but it's not absolutely vast, like some other parenting forums – including the one I used to manage before MadeForMums!
We do have lots of sections, it's true, but there is still lots of closeness, particularly on our 'Due in' threads, where people with the same due date chat daily with each other, on our TTC threads, and on some of our long-running support threads, like this one, for example, for folks who are dealing with their experience of miscarriage.
As well as these 'close' threads, we also have a fair bit of 'general chat', where we encourage everyone to chip in with their views about stuff in the news, or whatever. And that way, we find, people can get to know others who are maybe at a different life stage with their parenting.
If you're able to have a bit of a nose around, I'm sure you'll see what I mean. Try having a scan of Latest Posts and you'll get a good idea of what people are chatting about right now.
In answer to your questions about active members, we have about 6000 active forum users, of whom I'd say 350 were really active, and we're getting about 200 new posts a day. So, we're a bit of a bigger family than you are here but still a family, I'd say.
It would be wonderful if you'd be up for giving us a try!
13/05/2015 at 18:14
I will give you a try....
Thank you both for answersing my questions
13/05/2015 at 18:25
Oh that's great, Chocolate Cupcake! Really pleased to hear that.
13/05/2015 at 19:04
I don't want my account moved over. How do I go about stopping it from being moved over please? Thanks.
13/05/2015 at 19:51
Hi Pocahontas (great name!). Sorry to hear that. Can I please ask you why? Feel free to give it to us straight!
13/05/2015 at 20:53
Thanks for answering my questions too Helen - I'm looking forward to the move.
I especially like the fact that MFM progresses beyond baby talk into toddler and older children. If I recall correctly, there had been some comments about the lack of that contributing to the decline in Mumdrum so I can only see the good things with this.
13/05/2015 at 21:05
It's my pleasure tayto!
I'm so pleased you're looking forward to the move. And I'll be looking out for you in our Toddler and Older Children sections at some point!
We do understand that maybe not everyone on The Mumdrum forum feels as positive as you just yet - but I hope I can convince everyone to at least give it a try. I can see what great friendships have been made on here, and we'd love it if you'd all continue those friendships – and maybe make some more – over on the new site.
13/05/2015 at 21:09
I think there is quite a small usergroup left on here posting. I can understand that some of the members who no longer actively post here may not appreciate their posts etc being automatically moved over to another site. I hope those who are still active posters manage to integrate themselves into an already existing group and can pull on the knowledge and support of those on the madeformums site.

Mainly because Hitched didn't listen to us before, about the name Mumdrum, about moving it from Hitched, about splitting the boards up. They asked us to give them a chance then, and they lost so many people, users warned them what would happen, tried to suggest things but they kept their focus on other things. I can think of a few users off the top of my head who have really tried to keep the boards moving, putting effort in and then to use Chocolate Cupcakes word, it's quite sneaky how they've done it, just like they did before, not asking opinions on the name of the site before they brought the domain etc.
I don't hold a lot of trust in them. I'm glad somethings being done and hope it goes well.
13/05/2015 at 21:20
Hi PurpleStar. Thanks for your post and lovely to 'meet' you!
I'm sure you'll all integrate really well – like I say, you lot here all post about the same kind of stuff as us lot there! Plus, like all of you, they're a lovely, friendly bunch and I really can't see them being anything other than delighted at having some more people to chat to.
If it helps any, MadeForMums did join up with another parenting site called BabyExpert about 6 months ago now – and, you know, I'm not sure I could still tell (without a crafty look at the members database) who used to be on BabyExpert and who has always been on MadeForMums.
13/05/2015 at 21:32
Thanks for replying Pocahontas. I'm afraid I don't know much about Mumdrum's history, so I'll leave that one for Sarah to answer when she has a moment. Just one word in her defence, though: I think our legal bods here at MadeForMums did make her keep news of the move confidential till it was all signed off, so I honestly don't think she's had an opportunity to tell you about the move before today.
I hope you will come over next week and at least give MadeForMums a try. We're always open to feedback and suggestions of how things can be improved – and we aim always to be honest and transparent about everything we do with the forum. We know the forum is only ever as good as the people chatting on it – and it's part of our job to listen to what our forum users want, and do our best to make that happen.
