Trying to conceive

Hello all, I'm just visiting from the Hitched OT forums and thought I'd say hello
I'm Cara, married to Jez for a year, and TTC since June (actively since July though). Our problem is that we're both 39 so time's not on our side. We're fit, healthy and active, non smokers, and most people think I'm about 30, so here's hoping my body agrees! I never meant to leave things this long, but my ex walked out before we had children, and it took me this long to find and marry a decent guy, and it was always important to me to be married first.
Anyway, that's a bit about me. I've got a phone app that's supposed to calculate fertile days (Ladytimer, if anyone knows of better apps let me know) but I'm very inexperienced when it comes to understanding my body. I was on the pill for 20yrs with maybe a couple of short breaks in that time and never really took any notice of my periods. Until recently, I ws so useless I didn't even know which cycle day was day 1. Big learning curve ahead, so any advice or tips, send them my way.

Hi, and welcome!
Did you come off the pill long before trying? Just wondering, I took a break of a few months mainly because friends my age had advised it. Sounds like you're in good shape for TTC :)

Hello Barefoot :)
Welcome to MD and the TTC board's
I would stick too ladytimer for a while and get use to your body and just enjoying DTD :)!
A lot of us do Fertility Friend, which is a temping application (Your see a lot of charts over here), Come and join in the TTC weekly chat, lots of knowledgeable ladies who will be able to help you!
I am pretty new too TTC also, Think we started the same sort of time :)!

Finished last packet of pills mid June, no further contraception used from then. Started working out fertile times and taking folic acid in July but only DTD a couple of times on vaguely the right times that cycle. Currently mid fertile period, allegedly, and I think OH thinks all his birthdays have come at once!! I did read that it didn't really matter about waiting after coming off the pill, just that if you conceive straight away, it can be harder to predict a due date since your last period was a withdrawal bleed rather than a period. Something like that anyway!
Thanks Cupcake xx

Hi Barefoot! Age isn't everything, me and my husband are both in our 20s and both are a bit broken and have needed lots of assistance.
I'll keep my fingers crossed you're journey is short and sweet :-)

Hi barefoot, nice to see you over here. I don't have any tips other than to make the most of dtd!
I am probably considered older too, so you're not alone.
Hopefully your TTC journey is a short one.

Hi & welcome to TTC. As everyone has said you don't need to worry about waiting after coming off the pill but be warned that your cycles may take a bit of time to normalise. I was only on the pill for 3 years & when I came off my 1st cycle was 28 days but my second was 48 days & even though I didn't feel pregnant & kept getting negative pregnancy tests I was confused as I assumed all cycles were roughly 30 days!! I've since learnt a lot on here & back in the hitched days. I also use fertility friend but I don't temp, I just use it to chart the length of my cycles and work out when ovulation is due (I also use OPK's to find out).
Oh & you're only young as you feel!

Hi Barefoot. I'm Gillsy over on H OT.
As others said, just use the app to track dtd, periods, any symptoms etc and have fun for the first few months anyway. I use Period Tracker app and I really like it.
Age isn't always a factor although I can understand why you would be anxious about that.
I'm hoping you have a really short journey ttc but theres loads of support here if you need it xx

Thanks for the welcome everyone!! I promised myself I wouldn't get too hung up on the details, but being a bit of a list and spreadsheet nerd, I can tell I will be using charts etc quite a bit. Probably not temping since a) I don't have the right type of thermometer and b) working shifts I could never take it at the same time consistently. I am, however, already fretting that we didn't dtd last night since both FF and my phone app predicted ovulation, but we've been making the most of my rest days from work this week so it's probably not that big a deal! I think my biggest concern is wanting to know if I AM still able to have kids at my age - if I knew that I'd be a bit more chilled about he whole thing, so OH and I have said we'll wait 6 months then pester the GP for tests or go private.
