Trying to conceive

Hi there. I've been having a nosey on here over the past couple of weeks and today i thought it was time that I finally join and introduce myself.
My husband and I have agreed to start trying for a baby this year but before I have my copper coil removed and we officially start TTC we felt that we may need to consider genetic counselling.
My husband has a sibling with a disability called Angelman Syndrome. The concern is whether we could also have a child with this condition. Ultimatley, we both agree that we should know what the likelihood/statistics is of us having a child with this sydrome before trying.
There's a part of me that thinks let's just go for it and see what happens but he wants to check this route out first and I will support him with that.
I just wondered if other people had been in a similar position and their experiences? Plus anyone's thoughts on this.
