Trying to conceive

This is is my first post! In a nutshell I'm nearly thirty with a long term partner and I have a six year old from a previous marriage.
Now TTC no.2, first for my partner! I came off the pill last month and started trying straight away, didn't wait for first AF, couldn't wait to get started! my cycles are always really regular 28/29 days so DTD several times on/around ovulation days, been looking for every possible sign and caved on Friday and did a test...BFN, then AF arrived this morning :(
Feeling so down now , it took just one month with my first (albeit with my ex husband), so my expectations were way too high I know!
can anyone share their experience about TTC after coming off the pill? I read the first month you come off is when you are most fertile...but is that after your first AF after stopping the pill? Bit confused!
Look forward to talking to you all!

Hello! I think re the pill, it depends on the woman, and which pill. I was on the pill for 19 yrs, first microgynon, then cilest, then for at least the last 8 yrs, femodene. I stopped my pills at the end of June/early July, and AF arrived just as normally as when on the pill (even on the pill, my cycles weren't clockwork, and could be anything from 26-29 days). I only started taking notice of cycle dates and ovulation in Aug, and we got a bfp in Sept, so second active trying month. I was also a little miffed in August since we DTD every day or every other day for about a week and a half over ovulation!
Are you sure of your ovulation days? If you only came off the pill last month, you may not know if your cycles have yet returned to what they were before the pill. As well as checking dates and CM, maybe try temping? It will at least give you a clear ovulation date, and an idea of when a test may be positive. Many ladies on here took a good few months to return to stable cycles post pill.
Good luck xx

Thanks Barefoot! And congratulations :) Cilest was the pill I was taking. I'm not 100% sure of my ovulation days, I presumed based on the regularity of my cycles before on the pill, I've always been like clockwork! But they may well not have returned to normal yet. So will try again this month and look out for the ovulation signs...which CM should you look out for?

Hi there! I stopped the pill in February not to ttc but because I had zero sex drive so we used condoms instead and I got my mojo back. My cycles have been a pain in the behind since, I've had a 70 odd day cycle, a 40 odd day cycle, two 31 days cycles (but not one after the other so still irregular) in I'm now on cd37. It's a bloody nightmare. Hope your cycles sort themselves out sharpish

Oh bless you VonTrapp sounds like a nightmare! Hope your cycles sort themselves out soon! I had a 29 day cycle (normal for me)last month after stopping the pill so CD1 again today...will see how it goes, might buy some ovulation kits and try them out on the days I think I'm going to be ovulating!

I was only on the pill for 3 years. The 1st cycle I came off I was back to my regular cycle of 29 days then the 2nd cycle was 40+ something I convinced myself that I must be pregnant even though I had no symptoms but that's just what happens sometimes. I was lucky that it only took me a few cycles to regulate (I also took agnus castus & evening primrose oil as I'd read that they can help to regulate the cycle lengths). It took me 6 cycles to conceive but I found using opk's really helped me to track when I was ovulating. I'm now on my 2nd cycle of ttcing number 2, but didn't go back on the pill inbetween times

Thanks for that Blackkat, I feel more reassured that I was at least bang on AF due date after stopping the pill was always so regular before starting pill! Looking back the last month I don't think I ovulated, I had no signs at all I just presumed the days, might buy some OPK's for this month to see if I'm ovulating when I think I am...I read that just cos you have a regular period after coming off pill doesn't necessarily mean you are ovulating yet, can take a couple of months! Will also go to Holland and Barrett tomorrow as well I think ;)

It's always good to feel that you're doing something proactive about ttc. I would recommend using opk's to see if you're ovulating. A lot of ladies on here also do temping to check as well. Good luck x

Not a good experience from me, I'm afraid. We TTC for nine cycles unsuccessfully after coming off microgynon, I had been on it for over a decade.

I was on a variety of different pills for about 10 years, last one was cilest. I came off it in March 2013 but had post-pill amenorrhea (no periods essentially). My cycles were, 37 days, 50 days, 64 days, and then I got pregnant on this cycle, which would have been 44 days. This was my first month ovulating so I guess I was both lucky and unlucky - unlucky i never ovulated before but lucky to have got pregnant on my first month ovulating - but essentially it took me 6 months to get the pill out of my system and get normal again.

I came off microgynon a year ago after being on it for 11yrs. My first cycle was 40 days and they been between 43 & 84 days ever since. Each cycle has been totally different in length as has my LP - just being referred now for basic fertility tests to see what's going on!

I was on microgynon (used to be ovranette but I think it's the same thing) for 12 years stopped 10months ago. My cycles went straight back to 28 days and have been 25-29 days ever since but despite a fairly predictable ov pattern (on OPKs) we've not been successful yet. I think it massively varies from person to person and just because AF arrived doesn't mean you ovulated. I hope next cycle is your one!

Goodness, lots of different experiences, thank you for sharing them! I picked up some Agnus Castus yesterday and some OPK's so when I think I will be ovulating this month I will double check and test to see if I am! I was on the pill for nearly 4yrs so not too long, I love not having to remember to take it anymore :)
