Trying to conceive

Hello - I'm new - I've come over from Hitched as H & I want to start our TTC journey soon however I've been lurking a little bit already. A little about us, I'm 32, H is 33, we're both Irish, H has lived here for 5 years, I've been here 2 and we've been married since May last year.
My WWYD is around timing. We had planned to start TTC'ing after January as we had a ski trip booked and I wanted to get that out of the way before starting. However, I had an accident skiing and badly injured my left knee and now I need an operation. We had our appointment last Wednesday at which we shared with the consultant our plans to start TTC'ing. The way the operation works is that I need to wait 6 weeks until we see if I'm able to have it (the knee has to fully mobile & no fluid/bruising before the op). At that point, if I can, it'll be another few weeks to have the op and then at least two months after before we can try to TTC (June at the earliest), if its not good news at the appointment in 6 weeks, it's more waiting.
The consultant just told us we could do it either way and didn't really suggest which way to go however H felt he was pushing more towards doing the op now. I'm wondering what everyone else thinks? I'm conscious of my age - I'd be nearly 33 when we'd start TTC and I'd worry that, if there was complications with the op, Id have to wait longer. On the other hand, if we TTC now and we're successful, I'd have to wait until after the baby before having the op and, if I injure my knee further, the success rate of a good operation drops not to mention if there was any complications with baby.
Sorry for the long waffly post, any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated....
Anyways, hi everyone!

Hello and welcome to MD -
Sorry to hear that you have injured yourself!
In your situation then I would probably wait until after the operation to TTC - You could always get yourself taking the Folic acid etc so it's in your system for when you do start TTC. and maybe OPK'S or Temping in the mean time so you can gage when your ovulating :)

Thanks ChocolateCupcake, in my heart I knew that's really what I should be doing!

It's so hard though!
But recovery time etc etc and having too look after a newborn would be hard work! (They are hard work without having had an operation!)
But I do think you could be doing stuff to prepare yourself for TTC in the meantime so that you feel like you are doing something!

Yeah, you're absolutely right, having to look after a newborn and a bad knee would be a disaster. I'm a very impatient person so I know I need to watch that with this! I've been off the pill since last June, taking folic acid since November and I've been watching my weight too - I'll start temping so that will take my mind off not being able to do anything yet. Thanks for all your advice :-)

Haha, Fair enough :) Yes temping is amazing, I love it.. lol! And your not doing nothing you are tracking your cycles so you know what is normal for you :)
