Trying to conceive

I've been lurking on here for a while now, but we are starting to get closer to ttc now so wanted to introduce myself - I'm 27, OH is 29. We have been married a year and will be ttc for our 1st baby. I already know I have PCOS - it was diagnosed just as OH and I got together about 6 years ago. So I'm expecting our ttc journey to be long and trying not to get my hopes up too much!
My first question is about vitamins. Should I be taking them? I'm taking folic acid, but do I need something else too? I have a fairly healthy diet, but I don't eat a lot of fish so worried about omega 3 as it seems to be mentioned everywhere as being important!
Any advice appreciated! Thanks!

Hey Lisa, I would suggest just your folic acid is enough however, I'm not sure re the PCOS - might be worth checking with your GP - just to be on the safe side? I take the pregnacare tablets and I know there are others on here who take the Boots Trying for a Baby tablets but I don't think they are essential.

Hi Lisa, and welcome. I'm not sure if there are any detrimental effects that any vitamins will have if you've got PCOS, although when we were trying for our first, I took Folic Acid and i also took Evening Primrose Oil up to the date of ovulation as it's supposed to help with the production of the sperm friendly EWCM!

Thanks for the replies ladies. I think I'm going to stick to just the folic acid at the moment. I have already discussed TTC and my PCOS with my GP. He basically just said to come off the pill and then if AF doesn't show up for 6 months to go back and get referred as I have a known problem. I went 9 months with no AF before I got diagnosed and then been on the pill ever since so we will see what happens!

For your info, we did a weekly topic thread a while ago and asked for ladies with PCOS to tell us their TTC stories - might be worth a read? mumdrum.com/.../18167.aspx

Welcome Lisa! I'm not TTC but wanted to welcome you to MD anyway :)
I took folic acid, evening primrose and an omega 3 supplement when TTC. I'm not sure if you need to be careful of any of them with PCOS though, sorry.
I hope your TTC journey is nice and short xxx

Thanks tayto - I'll check out that thread.
Hi Popcorn! Thanks for the welcome. I think I'm going to see how it goes with just folic acid but if we have no joy then maybe I'll try some other things too! I'm just hoping that we can keep it as relaxed as possible to start with. I don't want TTC take over everything as I'm convinced it's going to be a long journey!
