Getting Pregnant <
Trying to conceive

I've been lurking for a while now but am ready to come out! The new year has been a bit of a kick up the bum for me in terms of TCC - you know when you think "oh my x date I might be pregnant" and when it doesn't happen its a bit upsetting? (not explaining myself well at all!)
My story so far is this:
I came off the pill (microgynon) in April 2013, it took until January 2014 for my period to appear and since then I have had a regular ish cycle - anything from 30 to 37 days. Started using OPKs 2 months ago. My OH thinks we should go to the doctor, I think (hope) that the problem is just that we're not doing it enough/at the right time. I'm 32.
Look foroward to getting to know you all :-)

Welcome to Mumdrum;
We've decided to ttc this year. My biological clock is ticking and I am hoping this year will be the year....
Hope your stay here is a short one.

Hi Pook & Welcome to MD!
Sorry it's been taking some time to get your BFP - I know how you feel with the 'my x date I might be pregnant' - I honestly thought I'd be like my sisters who all fell preggers within 2 months or less of trying :-( I agree with your OH, no harm in going to the docs - we're going to do the same thing when we hit the one year mark. Plenty of ladies on here have gone to their docs re ttc stuff so feel free to ask any questions you may have.
Also, we have a weekly thread for all ttc chat and general chit chat so come along if you like!

Thanks for the replies! I know I should go to the docs, just need to bite the bullet and make an appointment, I think I'm just scared of admitting that there might be a problem :-/

Honestly, I feel the same! I hate the thought that there might be something wrong with either me or OH! However, the sooner you get to the Docs, the sooner you can get on the road to understanding why it isn't happening for you. (That's what I tell myself anyway!)
But, think of it this way, it will at least give you an idea as to what to do next. So, either you have an issue and they will start you on a plan or you don't have an issue and you can examine what other things you can do to increase your chances. I would recommend that, if they do confirm no issue, ask them what else can you do to increase your chances and what will happen next.

Welcome to MD. Good luck calling the docs - you're definitely doing the right thing, even if it turns out to be nothing and it was just a timing issue at least you have the reassurance that all is ok, and if it is something - you'll be on the road to a solution.
All the best. x

Thanks! I called this morning and made an appointment for Friday. I'm pretty sure he's going to fob me off... think I read somewhere that you have to have been trying for 2 years before they will refer you?....... but I am going to stand firm.
What kinds of tests do you think they will/can do?
12/01/2015 at 21:57
Hi Pook, and welcome. It's after one year, I believe. If you're referred for tests then your husband will be asked to provide a sperm sample and you'll have your bloods checked. When you've had your bloods done you'll have an HSG or HyCoSy which is where they check your uterus and tubes, to see that everything's clear in that regard. If your hubby's sperm sample is low then he'll more than likely be asked to repeat it three months later, as sperm count can be environmental i.e. he could get a low reading if he's had a virus, so they like to check again. Great that you've made an appointment with the doctor - let us know how it goes. X

Hi Pook, well done with booking the docs & good idea to be ready to stand firm! Lots of vibes for Friday for you xx

Thanks Enyayee that's really helpful and doesn't sound as daunting as I was expecting. I'll let you all know how it goes

Pook I would personally say with you stopping the pill in April 2013 that your 'counter' for starting TTC is almost at the 2yr mark now anyway (only short by a couple of months) so you'd be very unlucky if they make you wait until April itself. You have to be trying for at least 2yrs where I live in order to be referred for fertility treatment but you might be able to get the basic tests done if you push for them. They agreed to do a sperm analysis and an internal scan for me once I cried and refused to leave the surgery!

Thanks PurpleStar that's a good point and I might actually start by saying April 2013 as the start date - I have a feeling he's not going to quiz me too hard....and if that fails then I'll cry!! I'll report back tomorrow x
