Trying to conceive

Actually I thin I have posted before, but been veryslack so will try and be less of a lurker!
Been off the pill for a while now but not been properly going for it! OH isconvinced it'll be easy but I don't think he quite understands how scientific it all is!
I don't have a very high sex drive, so the thought of Dtd every other day or so is not very realistic for us! Does anyone else feel the same?!
The whole ovulation prediction and charting etc also seems so complex! I have fairly regular cycles of around 27 days, so when is the best time for us to go for it, so to speak?!
So manyquestions! And so many typos! Stupid iPad!

Hello and welcome to TTC.
If you cycles is 27 days, you ovulate between 10 and 16 days before your period arrives. So best get down to business between days 11-17.

Thanks ducky! Apologies for my rather brief intro. Bloody iPad keeps correcting everything - your name just came up as sucky and then dicky!! Lol!

Hi Zola, Welcome to Mumdrum. I'll try to answer some of your questions, but there are other ladies who are more knowledgable than me and no doubt they will be along soon. I think my H thought it would just happen too, but now he has started to research stuff a bit more - he is a scientist so this is normal for him.
I can't help you with the sex drive bit - sorry. But if you chart carefully you can probably predict the best time to DTD rather than just doing it a lot IYSWIM.
In theory ovulation should happen 14 days before AF starts (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong anyone) But its not an exact science. Since temping I have found that my ovulation has happened 16/13/14 days pre AF but it may be that my temping is slightly out or something. So with a 27 day cycle you should be ovualting on day 13 of the cycle and therefore you want to DTD in the 4-5 days before that date. But the 14 days is just the average so you may need to take a few days either side to be safe.
Temping, OPKs and stuff do seem a lot to take in at first but just take your time and ask questions. I use OPKs but temp as well. I prefer to temp, but I've only been doing it for 3 cycles. I use fertility friend which is a free app, to record temps and so on. With temping when you are due to ovulate your temperature will go up three days in a row, but obviously by the time this happens you have already ovulated so you need to temp for a few cycles to get used to it. If you have regular cycles you will find it easier to predict.
Hope this helps.

Hi and welcome.
A good way to get started is to download an app for your phone and keep track of your cycles, dtd, symptoms etc and you start to build up a picture.
The luteal phase which is the time between ovulation and AF. This can vary for different people but, from what I've read, usually the number of LP days would only differ by 1 day up or down. My last LP was 13 but the one before was 11 days but that was post mc so not sure that's reliable. If you knew yours was 12 for example you count back 12 days from the start of AF and that would be the day you ovulated.
I use OPKs but don't temp. I love doing the OPKs and it helps me understand exactly what the right time is for Dtd. There are loads of knowledgable ladies here so ask away with anything you need to xx

Hi there! I have a similar problem in that my partner has an almost non-existant sex drive which mixed with my dodgy cycles doesn't bode well for us. I've been temping for the last 2 cycles so I can keep track of what I'm doing ovulation wise and now this cycle I've just started doing opk's - can't say how much they are helping yet as I've only pee'd on 4 so far and not had a positive result yet :)

Hello! Welcome to mumdrum! I also have a low sex drive and it is hard especially after TTC for as long as I have! If you know when abouts you ovulate it's a bit easier as its Iy for a few days of your cycle. Good luck and I hope your journey is a short and successful one xxx

Welcome! Hope things go smoothly for you. Can't help too much with the sex drive but I ahve found that the more I do it the more I actually want too so it maybe things increase when you start trying properly. Good luck xxx

Hi Zola, I don't have a very high sex drive either but found ttc actually helped improve it actually for the same reason as Grif has said (the more I haven't, the more I want it!). I hope it has the same effect on you :-)

Welcome Zola! I don't have a massively high sex drive either, but found when we were ttc as Grif said, the more we did it the more I wanted it. I also really liked the sciencey side of things so I used OPKs before we even started ttc so I had a really good idea of when to dtd which helped. On the actual cycle I got pregnant, I also charted my temps - I found that useful because once my temps had confirmed ovulation we could stop being quite s regimented about dtd, but also made sure we didn't run out of steam and stop too early.
