    Hi

Me and Hubby have been trying for a baby since May and (heaven knows why) I havent had AF since June. Done lots of HPT's, had blood tests and seen the doctor but they have no idea why AF has stopped. So today I'm going for a pelvic ultrasound as the doctor thinks it could be a cyst on my ovary - I've been getting quite a few pregnancy symptoms (back ache, sickness, tiredness, weird stretching pains in my tummy) but apparently they're all also symptoms of a cyst, which is fustrating!

I just wondered if anyone had been for a pelvic ultrasound, or had a cyst - apparently the ultrasounds are the same ones done at early pregnancy units so I'm guessing they're safe. Just really nervous about what they might find...my fingers are tightly crossed that they find a little bean in there instead of anything wrong.

    .......................................................

Hi, well I went for the scan yesterday - luckily they didnt' have to do an "internal" scan as I went with a full bladder - definately something to remember as they didnt tell me this in my referral letter, it was only because I ask them if I had to prepare - so anyway, with a full bladder they could see my ovaries much better and I've now been diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. Very very scared and upset as it seems like alot to take in. Went to see the Drs today and she started talking about my options and what it means - stil very confused - but heard it's fairly common - has anyone else had pcos? Any advice of what to do to get rid of it would be welcome! Feeling really down about it - and to make it worse, my boss had a right go at me for being late in to work cos I had the Dr's appt in the morning so was an hour late.

    Hello

I had a pelvic ultrasound during fertility tests, and they are not too bad at all.

The insert the probe with a sheath on it and move it around to examine you.

I took a couple of pain killers before mine and that definately helped, but it was nothing too unpleasant so try not to worry.

Hope all is well for you.

    hi snowie
i have just had a cystremoved by keyhole. Usually they will come and go by themselves and you wont even feel you have them. Like you i had all those symptoms but i only had one cyst. I had one last yr too but that went away by itself. This one this yr didnt and grew so had it out when they found i had endo too which is what apparently caused the cysts.
I think diet and light exercise help. I take vits and evening primrose tabs as they are supposed to help regulate hormones.
SInce i had my cyst out my options were go on the pill or have babies (which is what i wanted to start doing anyway). What did the docs adv for you?

    Hi snowie

I have pcos. How much do you know? Iv become quite an expert over the months lol I did read up a lot on it.
But you must know there is help. You will prob have to have your tubes checked with a HSG xray and then all being well metformin or clomid may be given. I didnt have metformin as my insulin levels were ok (and dont know too much about that) but I did get clomid and after 3 rounds of it I got my bfp at the weekend. I have my email set up so if you have any questions please feel free to email and ask honey.
Also there are a few ladies over on lttc that have pcos that could help too so maybe worth a little post in there, they will be happy to help X

Thanks natster and loobylou - it's good to know I'm not the only one out there! And huge congratulations loobylou on your BFP - that's so good to know!!

Drs have me booked in for another blood test next week and then follow up appt to discuss the results and what happens next. All they've done so far is give me a print-off about PCOS but it's still confusing - some websites say one thing and some say another. I think I'm struggling to come to terms with it - gone from thinking baby making would be fairly straight forward to hearing that it's unlikely we can have a baby without help. But can't let it get me down, gotta start postive thinking and researching!!

Hun i have PCOS too i was having vrey very irregular cycels, my longes being 172 days which was almost 6 months, and i only ended up ovulating as i started to take angus cactus tablets.

I have always had this, whereby i would only ov about once or twice a year.

Please dont think you wil have on without help, as i have 3 sons already, i fell with them after coming off the pill each time but i didnt even have a AF after coming off i ov'd after about 6 months.
This time around i didnt fall after the pill - hence why im still in TTC and LTTTC, but i have had the internal scan which was not that bad atall, both my overies were covered in cycts, some women still ovulate with them but some like us dont much atall.

I have been referred to a gyne, and have my second appointment in a week, but in the meantime i purchased angus cactus from boots and that has been like a goodsend for me, i have managed to get my cycles down to 40 days!! that is an acheivement for me, considering i was going 6 months without AF.

Its is still possible to get pregnant with PCOS, there is clomid which can be given by gyne's whicH helps ovulation.

Do you know if your doctor will refer you to a gyne after these results, if you dont know manybe make an appointment and ask the doctors whats next.

Also cant beleive your boss had a go at you, everyone is entitiled to doctors appointments! xx

    Hi,

Well I never thought I'd say this but I'm so happy that AF has arrived today!!!! First one in 5mths!!!!!! I understand that PCOS means your cycle is irregular so it doesn't necessary mean that "I'm cured" but at least it means my silly little body has ovulated! Hubby has been away on a course all week so I was looking forward to so welcome home BD'ing but to be honest I'm just so excited that AF has arrived .... BD'ing can wait!

Spoke with Drs and still got to go for blood tests, but they're pleased AF is here.

Thanks for your post Hales - it's so good to know that there is still a chance of geting pregnant dispite having PCOS. Will speak with the Drs about the angus cactus - do the Drs have to perscribe this or can you just pick it up yourself? Dr did say I'd be refered to a consultant - not sure whether that's a gyne or not though.

Sooooooo happy! Boss has been a pain in the a** again today but I dont care - I have AF at last!!!
