Trying to conceive

Hi, this is my first post but have been lurking for a while Hoping you can help.
We are ttc for the first time, this is month 3. The first month was more not trying not preventing. However I have for a while been monitoring my cycle which is normally 30 to 31 days but has been 28 once in the past year although I might have mis-remembered
I am using opks and charting this month and last. Last month got positive opk day 16 which makes sense in a 31 day cycle and for me is fairly typical.
I'm CD12 today and got a pos opk. I'm a bit confused because I'm assuming this means I'll have a 27 or 28 day cycle which is short for me. I'm pretty certain the line is as strong as the control line.
Anyone got a positive opk earlier than expected? Can anything else cause a 'false pos' other than pcos which I'm lucky not to have. I'm taking preconception vitamins which I assume don't effect opks.
All thoughts welcome
Many thanks in advance.

Just seen no one replied to you :( when I was using them sometimes I could ovulated as early as cd10 so a 24 day cycle or as late as cd17 so a 31 day cycle. My average was cd12-14 though.... unfortunately when TTC our bodies decide to not play ball which is generally why it’s best to relax and just dtd every other day. Also a positive stick doesn’t guara ovulation. We can gear up to ovulate and then it go away again and come back a few days later. Hope that helps? Cycle length is governed by ovulation so if you do ov early, your period will be early and vice Veras. Good luck c

Thanks flybutterflyfly, I'm still learning. I've been charting too and it seems to correlate but as you say, best just to try every other day.
Thanks for taking the time to advise :)
