Getting Pregnant <
Trying to conceive

I'm a little confused by my cycles recently & this 1 is no exception. Since I began tracking my cycles a year ago I've only ever ovulated on CD 15 or 17 with cycles that average 29 or 30 days. I track this using opks as I've always been able to get a positive on an opk & then record ov as the following day (although I'm aware that it can be 24-36 hours after the 1st positive & obviously I may not have tested at the exact moment I got the surge!!). In the last 6 months I've also experienced ovulation cramps which confirm the ovulation for me. I therefore have never felt the need to temp as well as testing everyday of my cycle would be too intense for me & would mean ttc would take over my life even more than it already does. I also don't think it would make any difference to when we dtd as we dtd as much as we can after the 1st positive (well depending on the timing of it!!).
I'm currently on CD17 & no positive in sight only lots of very faint lines on opks. So I've either missed the surge or I'll ov CD19 or later. So the longest luteal phase I might get now is 10 - 11 days & with my usual 4 days of spotting (6 days with my last cycle) I don't think is even to give any fertilised egg enough chance to implant. This is my second cycle taking vit B which I thought would lengthen my luteal phase not shorten it. I've also started taking agnus castus this cycle as I understand that this can help with lengthening the luteal phase.
I guess I'm asking if anyone has a short luteal phase but knows if this is still possible to get pregnant. Or any other advice as this ttc is starting to worry me now (only 5 cycles in but am now 35). Thanks

Sorry your cycles are confusing you :(
Well, I use to ovulate cd17-19 on average (temped to confirm it) and would have cycle lengths of 28-30 normally with spotting 2-3 days before AF. I too was worried about my luteal phase length and took vit b6 for a couple of months to try and extend it - I didn't find it made a difference but not sure whether I took it for long enough tbh. I got my bfp though in November so it is definitely possible to get pregnant with LPs of 10-12 days and with spotting prior to AF (although it did take 14 cycles but that may not be anything to do with the LP?). And for the few months before the bfp I didn't take any supplements apart from pregnacare that I'd been taking since the start of ttc. I did use a cbfm for the last 2 cycles but again m not sure if that made a difference or not but found it easier then peeing on loads of cheapie opks.
Hope that helps and that you get some answers (and even better -a bfp soon x

Thanks CO, that's exactly wanted I wanted to hear. That a shorter luteal phase & pre af spotting doesn't have to hamper getting pregnant. Now just got to wait & hope that I ov soon!

I can't offer any advice I'm afraid BK as my cycles are totally and utterly confusing me at the moment too! In fact, I was going to come on here and post about long luteal phases!
I'm not sure if it 'helps' to know that someone else is also struggling to understand this whole TTC/cycles malarkey but, basically, last month I had some spotting around CD12 & 13 but didn't get a peak on the OPK until a week later. I'm now spotting again and it's CD10. Cue me Googling pre ovulation bleeding, long luteal phases, etc, etc. Who knows what's going on.

I think you know we are in somewhat similar positions but everything I can find online suggests that once the LP is over 10 days it should be ok, and even with shorter ones there can be implantation. Also, about the age thing, which I was also starting to freak out about the evidence is pretty weak. This article is really worth reading: www.theatlantic.com/.../309374

I wrote a post on here asking if a short luteal phase would stop me getting pregnant I think mine was 12 days. Was reassured it wasnt, and I got my BFP that month!
Fingers crossed for you x

You're welcome, glad I could give you some reassurance. Fx for you. Don't know why ttc has to be so hard/confusing!

I've also read that any LP over 10 days will not affect chances of getting pregnant.
Maybe it's worth trying the supplements separately? Could they be interfering with each other's function? So next month take the angus cactus but drop the vit b? No idea if that will help but it's probably worth a shot.

WG: I remember us discussing spotting/bleeding last month when you had mid cycle spotting & I had a mid cycle bleed. Very weird & why is it only now (whilst we are ttcing) that are cycles become strange! Hope your spotting means nothing. Have you seen a gp at all? Think I might just keep going to see mine!
Veecee: I had read that article before & I don't know why I panic about it but I guess it's easier to blame l;ack of a bfp on age than anything else. Like I need an excuse for why it's not happening straight away.
Thanks Weekender, love positive stories
OB: Might be worth dropping vit b as maybe I'm going for over kill!! Thanks

I had mid cycle/breakthrough spotting/bleeding whilst on the pill. Went to see the GP nurse at the surgery, she changed it but I still had the same problems and eventually I stopped taking altogether (last smear was nov 12 and the swabs taken last April were clear). Until the last month or so I hadn't had any further issues. For the last couple of months it only happens around CD10-12 so one would think it could be ovulation related but my peak came a week later last month. Aargh I'm stressing myself out. If it happens again next month I think I'll make an appointment to see someone. Last time they weren't particularly concerned.

I have short lp's and naturally is a max of 10 days. With vit b complex I could extend it to 11 or 12days. I conceived both p amd this baby on the secomd month of taking vit b. So its definitely possible to be long enough. X

Thanks AR. How are you 27 weeks already!! x

I have short cycles and short LPs with spotting in the second half of my cycle and all of my boys were conceived fairly easily luckily. Here's my charts from #2&3 (if it works!)

Thanks Alaina. Think I might start looking into temping!

Are you me??? I too normally get a peak around cd17 with ovulation pains about 36 hours later and then a LP of 12 days. This month I've had no EWCM, no ovulation pains and I'm on cd21. I'm sure I've read somewhere that no matter when you ovulate your LP is the same so even if I ovulated tomorrow my LP would be 12 days and AF would be expected cd 34 :-/ I also get pre AF spotting and have googled myself silly looking into shorter LPs/early spotting and have had similar worries. Reassured to read everyone else's stories even if I don't know what's gone on this cycle

I'm relieved (in a weird way) that I'm not the only 1 KittyKat. I've also read that the LP should be the same so hopefully our cycles will just be longer to make up for the late ov. At least we're getting lots of DTDing in whilst we wait (we do every other day then 2 days in a row the day I get my 1st positive). Do you take any supplements? Keep me posted with how your cycle goes & when you ovulate & if you find any miracle cure for preventing spotting please let me know. Good luck with this cycle x

AF on her way either this evening or tomorrow which means I must have ovulated earlier than expected as today is cd27 so no idea how I missed any symptoms or signs-definitely didn't have any ewcm. I take a TTC supplement and also sprinkle wheatgerm on my cereal as a friend recommended it (her sister took it as she was told she was per-menopausal which I'm not but am a bit older). The one cycle I didn't bother taking it, AF seemed lighter which could have been a coincidence but I figured it wasn't doing me any harm so I may as well go back on it. Hope you have better luck than me

Sorry to hear that KittyKat. Well it looks like my af is on her way, although possibly very slowly. I had my 1st day of spotting yesterday, which is very early at CD21 so I guess I'm in for another 5 or so days of it like last cycle before af actually arrives. Fingers crossed we both have more normal cycles next month x
