Apologies if these are really silly questions but do you know how far in advance of TTC you should start taking pre natal vitamins? Every website I read says to take them in advance but doesn't say how far?
Also when did you start tracking your cycles? Before TTCX or once you start? is there a big difference between fertility monitors and opks? The fertility monitors seem really expensive.

No silly questions here so ask away!
You should start taking folic acid I think 3 months before you start ttc if you can. I would definitely say start tracking your cycles now if you can that way you know where you are when you start. No idea on fertility monitors as I haven't invested in one but I'm sure someone will be along shortly to help with that.

As Lulu said, feel free to ask anything, if us TTC'ers don't know, there are always some more experienced BT'ers (Baby Talk) that pop by to help out too!
3 months for folic acid. Your body can't actually store it but its really handy to make sure there is always a good supply in your system just in case! You can get them on their own and then switch to a more complete vitamin (like a pre-conception) just before you start trying.
I use Fertility Friend to track as i know quite a few of us do on here that tend to temp anyways, and started tracking straight away. More to get an idea of cycle lengths and seeing if we can spot ovulation. Are you on any birth control at the moment while you're waiting to start?
I'm just using Internet Cheapies (IC) opks. I'm on cycle 2 and have found them to be quite reliable so far. Maybe give them a go first and see how you find them. I don't have a problem reading them but it all varies person to person i think!

They say 3 months for folic acid/pre-natals. However, that doesn't mean you should out off TTC for 3 months. Think of all those people who don't know they're pregnant so haven't taken any.
Fertility monitors are expensive and if you are just starting out I wouldn't suggest using OPK or anything yet. Just have sex every few days and try and stay relaxed. TTC can become very very difficult - trust me, I know! You don't want to be stressed out with it yet. I would suggest trying OPKs if nothing's happened in about 6months.
Good luck and welcome xx

Thanks for the advice all, I think I'll just stick with the folic acid for a few months & see how we get on. I'm not on any birth control & haven't been for 2 years. My cycles seem fairly regular 28-31 days so I'll aim for as much BD as we can handle in the middle week or so of my cycle & move on to OPKs if we don't have any luck after 6 months.
I just want to hurry up and get married now so we can TTC. I would start before but a boozy hen weekend that has been planned has other ideas.

Hi Peggs! I'm relatively new here too. Me and my OH are 'not trying, but not preventing' . Which in his words means I haven't been too caught up in dates, cervical mucus and the calendar! Well, he is not quite right! I am taking folic acid from boots and I use the app Pink Pad on my iPad to track my cycle. I have fertility friend too but at the moment it seems a bit too serious for me, I'm not girly but I like my daisy and msgs telling me Aunt flow is due! I have just starting using internet cheapie opks which has shown pink pad to be quite accurate for me. The ladies here are a font of all knowledge and very entertaining to read!!
Much love to you all!!
