Getting Pregnant <
Trying to conceive

I don't know what's wrong and what hope I have.
I am 41 and trying to get pregnant for about 18 months. I have been pregnant before but terminated, about 12 years ago. Have sex every other day. Husband has Lichfield from his previous relationship although that child is now 16 and he may have deteriorated. He says he may have as his ejaculations are weak (dribbles out) and he is only about 6". I don't think either of these issues are relevant as I gather he's long enough to reach the right spot and that he wouldn't need a forceful ejaculation either (he used to have them when he was younger, apparently). perhaps there has been a deterioration of his sperm as he's also 41?
I have had premenopausal test and I'm ok. I have also had all clear on ultra sound. Next step is gynaecologist.
I would like to know if there are other "first time" mums out there of my age and if they had trouble conceiving. If they have, what were the reasons and what did they have done (if anything) to gpregnant ant in terms if tests and or treatments etc

Sorry for typo. Can't see an edit tab?? Husband "has a child" from his previous. That's the trouble with iPhones and the stupid autocorrect !!!!!

you said you have had a premenopausal test done and all ok. I would go back to docs and get them to do full checks on you both including sperm samples and hormonal tests. If you can afford to go private I would definatley recommend it as I spent over a year getting all the nhs tests done to be told all was normal it was unexplained infertility. Then we paid to have a detailed scan of my ovaries and uterus and it showed I had low ovarian reserve even though my hormone levels were within normal. I'm going to be 33 soon so this was a big shock as its very early for this to happen.
i have a child, I was 22 when I conceived and because of this we are not entitled to treatment on the nhs, you will proberbly be in same situation as your husband has a child.
definatley go back to your docs and hurry things along if possible. We have been ttc for 3 years and are now going through ivf. I just wish we had found out our problems and started treatment sooner.
good luck and my fingers are crossed that you get your bfp soon x

Hi Mozzarella, I'm also 41 and been ttc since sept 2011, I got my bfp in March '13 but went for my 12 week scan and was told it had not developed past 7 weeks
I had all the yearly checks done and all was fine but hubby was very reluctant to be tested as he says If mine are fine he must have the problem! we have 3 ds between us but I really wanted one together and getting very worried I've left it too late!
sorry I haven't a more positive story for you x

Hi. Thanks for replies.
My H is worried it's him too, hence why I mentioned his anxieties over those other issues above. I think we can rule those out as factors. The quality of his sperm may be an issue, however, or more likely as not I now have a low ovarian reserve as mentioned at #3 above.
My periods are extremely irregular these days. Points in that direction.
How is the IVF going? You pay privately?

Yeah it's privately funded, I've only just started really, currently on down regulation injections awaiting my scan to start with the next drug! The clinic I've used cost around £400-600 to have all the bloods, sperm and scans to investigate. abut I'm sure clinics will vary but all the investigating was done within the one month rather than a year of waiting for tests and results with the nhs.

I had my 1st child at 30 & my 2nd at 32, my husband & their father is 13yrs my senior making him 43 with my eldest & 45 with my youngest.
Age can be a determining factor for both parents to be but it is possible (a childhood friend has just become a 1st time mum to a baby girl & she turned 40 just before the birth). Try experimenting different positions whilst also checking with Dr/Gynaecologist that everything is still ok within the 'netherrealm' (I have only ever fallen pregnant when on the bottom in missionary position). Best wishes & good luck
