We are going to attempt to try and get the board moving a little bit and cover topics relevant to TTC!

Each week we will start a new topic from our list here : http://mumdrum.com/f/29/t/17582.aspx#LP0

(Please let me know which topic it is so I can delete it from the list)

It was voted last week (Sorry if you missed it!)

This week's topic is : Common Myths about TTC.

Feel free to add any you can think of and discuss myths already raised.

It will happen when you relax. Several people helpfully told me this.

We found out i was pregnant a few days after we made the decision to go back to the doctor to take fertility treatment discussions further. A friend commented that clearly this decision had relaxed me enough to get pregnant! So wrong in so many different ways.

Very frustrating,  I think some people really dont know what to say and sosay the first thing thst comes to mind, I really think sone people need educating.

My fav has to be you will get pregnant after one time.. yes it can happen once but no one tells you that its not always that easy and should be educated in schools too I think.

God yes. All throughout school they make it seem like you sniff a willy and you'll get pregnant

    drives me insane!!

Relax and it will happen annoys me too.

And chorus' of "My aunties, brother's, sisters nextdoor neighbours hairdresser was trying to get pregnant after [insert impressive amount of years normall between 5+10] then she [insert thing she did, stopped trying, went on the pill, stopped eating carrots/beans/processed foods] and got pregnant!

    Drives me insane!!

Oh, how about that your fertility tanks after 35?  Yes, it might take you slightly longer, but the often quoted stats  are based on 17th-19th century rural French church records, so hardly indicative of today's population.

Or that you can effect the sex of your baby by timing sex correctly.  While in theory this rings true, it's been tested false on several occasions, one study even showing the opposite to what you'd expect to be true!

Defo the 'relax and it will happen' bollocks.

Actually I think the thing I've learned is that getting a BFP doesn't always mean you will have a baby.

Not so much a myth but the sterotype that as I have just got married I must be upduffed straight away AND that I would tell everyone if I were. No-one knows we are trying and who knows how long it could take so I don't want to announce it to the world. BUT the world thinks it's OK to ask me roughly every other day!

Rosco same here! Its not so bad lately as most friend and family know about the first MC at least, as it was later and we'd told a few people. But the people who say 'surely you have to have a kid soon' ooooh I want to lamp them.
