Trying to conceive

So I got married 2 weeks ago (2 weeks and 1 day to be precise!) Hubby and I had always discussed TTC in 2015 married or not, but as soon as the knot was tied he suggested we get started. I suggested we waited until our honeymoon in April as a) I'm a reluctant mother to put it mildly, b) I don't have a permanent job but should at the end of March, c) I don't want to be preggers on honeymoon: I like adrenalin sports and most won't let you do them if you are up the duff and d) I have an underactive thyroid and I am terrified of not being able to conceive (I'm just under GP care, they won't refer me to an endocrinologist).
Any tips for what I can do to get in the best possible shape prior to TTC? I'm a little overwieght, mainly due to the thyroid but my diet could do to improve. I'm also on the pill- when should I come off?

I have no answer for the pill question! But hopefully someone else will have that answer for you :)!
I would try and loose some weight because of Gestational Diabetes - I have had it and it's a pain in the bum pricking your finger up to 7 times a day at the start!
Also if your BMI is over 35 you will be consultant lead and if you wanted a water birth you won't be allowed one.
I would also recommend 3 month's at least worth of Folic Acid/ Vitamin D before TTC. (www.nhs.uk/.../913.aspx) little bit about Folic acid and why it's important :)
Also if your not ready to TTC yet then don't just because your husband want's too... Both of you should want too, and the not having a job and then starting one before TTC would prob leave you in a bad situation with mat leave and pay?! If you happen to fall pregnant easily :)!

Welcome! I agree with CC about starting folic acid ASAP, that's the most important thing. As for the pill, it's hard to say - a lot of people find it takes a few months for their cycles to settle down after coming off the pill, on the other hand you could come off the pill and get pregnant straight away! Could you come off the pill and use condoms for a few months instead?

Thanks for the replies guys.
I'll get started on the folic acid and vit D. I think I just need to bite the bullet at some point when it comes to kids. I do want children, I imagine my future with children but I've never been broody, never had that 'I want a child now' feeling that other women have described to me, so I don't think I will ever do it of my own accord but I definitely do want children.
As for the job and mat leave stuff, it is my current job which should be made permanent so I would then be entitled to mat leave and things (due to the time I've already worked there), which is one of the reasons for leaving it until then, I might be one if the lucky ones that gets the BFP straight away!

Hello & welcome to MD! I agree with peanut and CC re the FA - best to start that asap. I take the pregnacare conception tablet as it replaces my previous multi-vit. Re the pill, it took me a few months before my cycles straightened out but I have friends who got preggers on the first cycle off the pill!
Best of luck with your decisions!!

With regards to the pill it all depends on the individual some have a normal cycle straight away others take a couple of months for things to straighten out. Have you spoken to your doctor about your pill? Other than that as everyone else said a good ttc'ing vitamin or just ordinary folic acid. I conceived my first baby four months after stopping the pill although my cycle was normal straight away, and after three months of folic acid. Good luck see you on the ttc'ing board xxxx

When I came off the pill it took me seven months to ovulate. Might be worth considering coming off it the month you go on your honeymoon. That way worst case you conceive on your honeymoon, you'd still get to do everything you wanted!
