Family holiday review - a beautiful self-catering villa on the Moroccan coast

Why not take the family somewhere more exotic – like the North African coast

The huge open-plan interior was more than big enough for six of us

“After looking for a destination for some time where we could get away from it all with my parents and our kids, Maisy, 4, and Eddie, 2, me, 33, and hubby Declan, 35, discovered this gem in Morocco. The six of us flew into Agadir aiport and from there it was a 90-minute taxi ride to the villa. It sounds like a long journey but the stunning Moroccan landscape kept us occupied so it passed really quickly.

Spectacular ocean views

Eventually we pulled up to Dar Soumaya, three kilometres outside the resort of Aglou Plage, and entered our villa. Downstairs, the large open-plan living, dining and kitchen area has plenty of room, while the whole back of the house opens out onto the private infinity pool, and views of the wild, deserted Atlantic beach.
The grandparents’ and children’s rooms were both downstairs, with their own bathrooms. Reserved for Declan and me was the upstairs boudoir, with ensuite whirlpool bath, wet-room shower, four-poster bed and wrap-around balcony, with spectacular ocean views.
We were all quite tired after the journey so we were really grateful for the delicious welcome dinner of the national dish, chicken tagine, that was laid out for us. At one point we all burst out laughing as we realised Grandad had decided the tagine lid looked great as a hat.

A lovely change of pace

Next morning our hire car was delivered (the lovely thing about this holiday is everything can be arranged for you) and me and Declan headed for the nearest shop in Tiznit, about a 15-minute drive away. It’s a bit basic, but luckily we came across a local who became our tour guide for the morning in return for spending a few quid on the lovely jewellery in his shop. He showed us the local market , which was vibrant and full of exotic sights, smells and colours. After stocking up we headed home to take over babysitting duties.
The beach is a two-minute walk from the villa and  Maisy and Eddie loved it, although the Atlantic was bit rough for swimming in. All in all it was the most blissful time of doing just about nothing and was a lovely change of pace, and we all agreed how we could get used to this life.”

Essential info

Dar Soumaya sleeps six adults and costs £1,995 per week. Flights to Agadir with Ryanair cost from £44 return. For more information visit www.qualityvillasmorocco.co.uk or call 01442 870055.
