Family holiday review: take it easy with the kids in Jamaica

Step out of your luxury suite, straight onto the beach, or relax in the infinity pool at the amazing Iberostar Rose Hall Suites in Montego Bay

Jamaica
You won’t have to walk far to enjoy the beach
Room
Family suites are large and airy

"Myself (32) and my husband Richard, 38, wanted a beach holiday with our daughter Mya, 4, so we could completely unwind, and the Rose Hall Suites  were just the ticket. With an infinity pool, activity pool and a lazy river that winds its way through the hotel there are endless opportunities to relax in the water.

Little ones are well catered for. Lucy’s Mini Club staff keep tots entertained and Mya enjoyed feeding fish near the pier, taking part in mini Olympics, face painting and sandcastle competitions. It meant Richard could use the fitness centre while I enjoyed a massage on the beach – just one of many therapies on offer in the hotel spa.

“Hummingbirds fed from our hands”

We had the choice of four à la carte restaurants to choose from. And there was a fantastic choice of foods with jerk chicken, rice and peas and fresh seafood in the Jamaican corner, as well as tot’s favourites, such as chips and burgers.

Our suite was large and airy – just perfect for families – with a walled balcony, a large bathroom and a great view of the beach. Babysitting is extra but with special kids’ shows each night in the Black River Theatre we didn’t feel the need to use the service.

We did, however, visit the Outameni Experience – a journey through the history of Jamaica – and Rockland’s Bird Sanctuary. At the sanctuary, Fitz, the laid-back manager, took us on a guided tour of the grounds and, at feeding time, we held bottles of sugared water and watched as hummingbirds flew in to feed right from our hands. Mya loved it!

Holiday highlight

It was Mya’s first time on a beach and she couldn’t get enough of it, splashing around in the sea, building sandcastles and going for walks. The sunsets over the sea were fantastic.
