Military dad serving overseas ‘present’ at birth
A Navy man serving overseas in the Middle East has managed to watch the birth of his first child with the help of online technology Skype, reports Kare11.com.
Ted and Lizzy Freese, from Minnesota in the US, used a computer by the side of Lizzy’s hospital bed so that she could hear his voice and he could support her through labour.
Ted’s Navy supervisor gave him leave to be ‘present’ at the birth, since he’s not scheduled to be home until December.
“I didn’t know if it was going to work,” Ted said. “Luckily my commanding officer made a phone call… and told me that I wasn’t going to be able to come back to work until I had a little baby boy.”
Lizzy and Ted both have several family members in the military and hoped their baby would be born on 4thJuly. Their wish came true as they welcomed baby Carson Lee at 4.12pm on Independence Day.
“From the time we found out, we were hoping it would be on the Fourth of July,” said Ted.
“I couldn’t ask for a better day,” said Lizzy.
