We visited on New Years Day as part of our London Zoo membership so it was free :-) There are lots of animals to see and their surroundings are really nice and they are obviously well cared for. You can drive straight in in Winter and then walk around the enclosures. My toddler managed this with ease but you do have to watch the cars as it isn't always clear which bits are completely pedestrianised. Toddler loved the penguins, zebras and hippos. The steam train (only available at certain times) was a real treat, with a good commentary, lots of space, very frequent and good views of the animals. You do have to pay extra for it though. It does get muddy so take the wellingtons! The cafe sadly is woefully inadequate with a lack of space, poor menu, poor food and high prices.
