Description:The King Alfred Centre had an unexpected start to its life. Just as the original building was nearing completion in September 1939, the Second World War broke out and the building was handed over to the Royal Navy to be used as a training base and commissioned as 'H.M.S. King Alfred'. The King Alfred Centre continued to be a popular sports centre until the new leisure pool complex was added in April 1983, facilities including, Leisure pool, Competition pool, Teaching pool, Solarium, Crèche. An all-purpose leisure facility providing competitive, instructional and leisure swimming opportunities with beach entry lagoon and features.
