Description:Edinburgh Zoo is set in 82 acres of parkland three miles to the west of Edinburgh city centre. It features close to over 1,000 rare and endangered animals. It hosts a programme of educational events and activities - ranging from keeper talks through to hands-on animal encounters and free hilltop safari rides and the Budongo Trail.

Have the whole day free to make the most of it, and be reasdy for an uphill walk! Space the day well to make sure the kids enjoy it all and get to see all the animals!

The zoo is a great day out for kids and families. It is quite expensive but really worth it! There are still some sort of depressing old style cages for the animals, in the big cats section particularly, but the zoo seems to be working hard to provide more appropriate habitats for all of the animals and it gets better at this each time I visit. My toddler liked the monkeys and the penguins the best!

Ditto! Lots of fun to be had teasing the penguins through the underwater viewing window - they like hats and leaflets apparently! Downside for me was the cost of the food - a slice of cake was £3.25! - we'll be bringing a picnic next time!

Still one of the best days out for the kids (especially if it's dry). Can be expensive, so make sure you have the whole day to enjoy it... (and consider the membership options if you think you might go more than once in a year!)
