If you’re on Facebook, you may have noticed that many of your friends have changed their profile picture to a cartoon character from their childhood. The group was originally started by an unnamed source, urging people to change their pictures to help fight child abuse, however it has since been exposed as a fake.

The group, which now has 90,000 members, asked its followers to change their picture to their favourite childhood cartoon along with a message, “Change your FB pictures to a cartoon from your childhood. The goal is not to see a human face on FB until Monday December 6. Join the fight against child abuse and copy and paste this to your status!”

However, despite its many fans, the group has been exposed as a fake after the NSPCC denied any involvement with the campaign – but was happy to receive the exposure. “Although the NSPCC did not originate the childhood cartoon Facebook campaign, we welcome the attention it has brought to the work we do.”
