We had a sneaky peek at Poundland’s must-have festive range for Christmas ’11 – they don’t call it Poundland for nothing!
Forget the red and green colour theme for 2011’s festive season – Poundland’s really made its mark by giving traditional concepts a modern edge.
The Poundland Christmas in July press event was certainly an eye opener to what can really be done for a budget price range. From room decorations to table settings and gifts for everyone in the family, Poundland had a lot of surprises.
As we entered by the fireplace, red and black made a simple room look glamourous. With lots to choose from – ribbons to display cards, fireplace and mantle piece mini decorative Christmas trees and tea light holders lit up the room (price ranges £1-£10).
We struck gold as we saw a gorgeous Christmas tree decorated with assorted baubles and piles of presents wrapped underneath. Anyone any age would welcome this sight on Christmas morning. Poundland really outdid themselves by choosing gold and purple for this area, really turning up the glamour with great prices from £1-£7.
The standout part of the showcase for me was the variety of festive ornaments and decorations for kiddies to get in the spirit. There was such a great selection including little snowmen, elf hats and stockings (most for £1). My personal fave was the santa sack for £1 which had a cute little message, “Dear Santa, I’ve been very, very, good (most of the time)” – it really put a modern edge on the traditional letters to Father Christmas.
Christmas lunch is possibly one of the most stressful meals any family has to prepare, but with Poundland’s extraordinary silver and blue themed table, it looked effortlessly stylish. Scarves were used to break up the table cloth, mini silver angel tea light holders, £1 were used instead of large candlesticks and large bowls of baubles (starting at £2 per pack) were used as eye catching centre pieces. And let’s not forget the chairs. Even the small details of ribbon and some hanging decorations were paired to match the colour scheme.
Finally, those all important family treats. Gifts were organised into sections for little girls and boys to his and hers – with lots to pick from toiletries and stationary for mummy and grandma, money boxes and sweets for the kids and festive ties and socks for dad and granddad, there was stocking fillers for everyone and even cute little gift bags to put them in. Even the schools will get remembered this year with group sets of cards for kiddy class mates and a special larger card for the teacher.
