A princess centre stage, a Walt Disney original goes digital, and hints at starring role for well-known Toy Story character
Here at MFM HQ we feel as if we’ve broken the Da Vinci code with our scoop on Disney’s Christmas plans.
As ever, heading into the Disney Store for their Christmas press event was like entering Aladdin’s cave. We’ve learnt that Cinderella is the princess to watch this year as Disney plans to re-release the original film on DVD this autumn. Beautiful pumpkin carriages and light-up dolls, plus high-end Cinderella outfits will surely fill many a stocking. You’ll notice Cinders front of the line-up of official princesses on bags, stationary and crockery, too.
Of course, the other princesses haven’t been forgotten. New kid on the block Merida, from Disney Pixar’s Brave, has an extensive range, including plush toys and dolls that transform into bears.
The much-loved Disney on Ice show will be back at Wembley Arena this festive season and you’ll find old favourites such as Lady and the Tramp on chic Christmas tree baubles.
But it’s the inclusion of Walt Disney’s first ever character, Oswald the bunny, that caught our eye. Joining Mickey in the new Wii game Epic Mickey 2, Oswald shows us what Walt Disney’s original plans for Mickey Mouse were. If you’re part of team Mickey, you can show your support with a pair of Mickey ears Santa hat (just £7!).
If it’s your little one’s first Christmas, there are adorable figurines for the tree, as well as ‘My first Christmas’ hats and comforters. Plus, you can have most things personalised online with your baby’s name (ensure you allow for extra time).
Boys will adore the superhero gear, especially for those too young to see some of the latest film adaptations. Spider-Man web blasters had us remembering hours of fun with boisterous brothers. The ever-popular Cars films offer pjs and trolley cases, too.
Our best scoop of the day was discovering big Disney plans for Toy Story’s toughest, roughest, (ok totally soft) Dinosaur, Rex. It sounds intriguing, but we’ll have to wait until winter to find out more. Perhaps Rex is getting his own film!!
We were tickled that dads’ presents revolve around the Seven Dwarfs, while mums get the evil stepmothers and witches. Offended, us? Never! They’re super glamourous after all…
