Exquisite and quirky Easter treats were shared with us at Hotel Chocolat's press event last week, with special finds for parents and children alike this spring
After promising ourselves again that healthy eating would start "tomorrow", the MFM team headed off to Hotel Chocolat’s Easter press show to see 2012's range of Easter delights. In a central London Hotel Chocolat store, after the doors shut to the public, the media spent a chilly Thursday night overdosing on chocolate samples (and a glass or two of Hotel Chocolat's pink prosecco).
Hotel Chocolat certainly knows a thing or two about Easter – it is the company's busiest time of year after all. And we’re not talking half-hearted little-chick-on-the-box-and-call-it-Easter efforts here. Enter a Hotel Chocolat shop at this time of year and it is like you’ve found where chocolate addiction began.
‘Dipping’ was the buzzword of the event. A chocolate version of fried egg and chips features a flowing salted caramel ‘yolk’, while dipping chicks and a mini dippy egg joined the child-appealing line up, too.
Hotel Chocolat has by no means forgone the traditional egg in a box idea either. But, of course, with Hotel Chocolat it’s not simply a box. The Rocket Egg and The Flutterby themed boxes have wings you pull out to create spaceships and butterflies. Coupled with chocolate figures nestled inside (we particularly loved the Robot figure on a stick inside the spaceship box), were eggs with detailed images "drawn" on. Wow.
For parents (or the more discerning young Easter fans) there are Easter eggs that are about an inch thick, presented in lavish boxes reminiscent of expensive spa gift sets. Pregnant? There are adorable blue and pink bear party favours without a hint of alcohol.
Humorous mini versions, including ‘You Crack Me Up’, offer thick eggs stuffed with small Easter treats – a great way to ration the sugary snacks. And we adore the 6-pack of tiny chocolate hot cross buns.
The stand-out products for us though had to be the Easter Beasties - that is, eggs with a cow or zebra print. They can’t fail to raise a smile as well as a rumble in the tummy.
Head to Hotel Chocolat to find out more.
