Proud parents of Olympians swapped stories and were serenaded by X Factor star at the grand opening of their London base
Olympics fever has well and truly gripped MFM HQ, so we were super excited to meet the mums and dads of Olympians from around the world at the official opening of P&G's Global Family Home.
As part of its 'Thank you mum' campaign, Olympic sponsor P&G has created a home-away-from-home for the athletes' mums and families near London's Borough Market.
“We asked athletes what we could do to support them here in London and they told us that mums and families from around the world don’t have a place to really relax and be together at the Games,” said Marc Pritchard, P&G’s global brand building officer.
P&G also had a surprise in store for the mums, when Marc announced that they would all be given two tickets to tonight's opening ceremony.
"What could be more exciting for a mum than watching her child walk into the Olympic Stadium?" he asked.
Olympic sponsors have come in for a bit of flak recently, but even the most cynical Brit would have been moved by the mums' stunned and excited response.
MFM was standing next to mums of Olympians from Peru, Chile and Argentina, with Chilean gymnast Tomas Gonzalez's mum letting out a little yelp of delight. Bless.
Also spotted in the crowd was marathon runner Paula Radcliffe's mum, Pat, and cyclist Victoria Pendleton's mum, Pauline.
The proud mums were enjoying a special performance by X Factor runner-up Rebecca Ferguson, who looked stunning in a strapless gold peplum dress.
Let the Games begin!
