Christmas may not be coming, but like the proverbial goose MFM is indeed getting fat all in the name of bringing you a sneak preview of the most mouth-watering offerings from Aldi’s Christmas in July preview.
While at the moment your taste buds may be more inclined towards chilled rose and charred BBQ meat in the garden (should the weather ever permit) it’s never to early to dream about what to fill your boots with come the season of reckless overindulgence, and overindulge you will on the decadent treats we have sought out for you.
Skipping straight to the important stuff, we homed in on this year’s bargain fizz offering, Champagne Philizot Brut NV, £12.99, a light, award-winning bubbly that makes a spot-on bucks fizz or slips down just as easily all by itself (er, or so we hear).
We also spotted a deliciously dainty Gingerbread House (under £10) that would work as a decoration in the run up to the big day, if your little Hansel and Gretel are able to resist having a nibble.
Or, to wow your Christmas party crowd present them with the Orange Topped Christmas Pudding (under £7) a decadent dome of spicy, sticky, fruitiness looking not unlike a sell-out pudding released last year by a certain lab coat wearing, molecular gastronomy-loving chef…
Sugar, spice and all things nice aside, the main meaty event is once again Four Bird Roast (under £7) with, we were assured, a better meat-to-stuffing ratio than last year. Sadly after Turkey, Goose and Duck we were given no clue as to what the mysterious fourth bird was. Perhaps it flew away, incensed to have its thunder stolen by the other three?
No Matter, those who prefer to know exactly what meat you are eating will be happy to hear that all Aldi’s Free Range Turkeys (under £10) are reared on their very own private Aldi farm and are perfectly complemented by the no-fuss frozen Roasted Vegetable Selection and Honey Glazed Parsnips (under £5) – As an Aldi insider told us on the day, it’s all about luxury for less.
