A poll of mums has revealed that 80% confess they have turned into their mothers, using tried and tested responses to their own children’s questions.
Researchers found the most used mumsy answer was “Because I said so”, closely followed by “Wait and see” and the classic, “If someone asked you to jump off a cliff, would you do it?”
More than half of mums also admitted to using their own mother’s responses intentionally as they believe they worked so well on themselves when they were younger.
The top ten answers to children’s irksome questions and whinings were:
1. Because I said so
2. Wait and see
3. If someone asked you to jump off a cliff, would you do it?
4. You’ll have someone’s eye out with that
5. What did your last slave die of?
6. Close the door, you don’t live in a barn.
7. I’ve told you a thousand times
8. There’s no such word as can’t
9. Say pardon not what
10. It’ll end in tears.
