Research suggests benefits of an exclusive breast milk diet
Babies who are breastfed exclusively for the first six months of life have fewer health problems, research by the University of Crete has found. The findings were based on a study of 1,000 babies.
The breastfed babies were compared to those who were partially breastfed or not all, showing that the latter were more prone to infections. The researchers believe that this is because breast milk contains antibodies which are passed from the mum which helps their baby fight off infection.
However, only 91 of the original 1,000 babies were breastfed exclusively for the full six months.
