David Tennant has been chosen as the ideal head teacher, beating off competition from Barack Obama, JK Rowling and Cheryl Cole, reports The Guardian.

The Time Lord gained 26% of the vote after primary school children picked their favourite from a list of names that included David Beckham, Alan Sugar and Lewis Hamilton.

Almost half of the nine to 11-year-olds said they chose their celebrity because they were fun, and a third said they picked someone they could look up to.

However, 12% said they would pick none of the names on the list as their dream choice.

The survey, commissioned by the National College for the Leadership of Schools and Children’s Services, also found that 75% of pupils said their head teacher made them feel happy to be at school.

“I’m not surprised to see David Tennant at the top of the list. Being a head is a tough but extremely rewarding job, but you don’t need to be a Time Lord to make a difference to children’s lives,” said NCSL chief executive Steve Munby.
