Money, money, money
How much do you spend on Christmas presents?

While the news is full of credit crunches, double-dips and increasing debts, it seems the Christmas spirit is still with MFM mums this year! Hurrah!

A quarter of the 1,000 of you who answered our survey are spending between £100 - £149 on Christmas presents for each child this year, which is slightly up on last year!

Babies under 1 year old are also better off this Christmas than last year. In 2010, only 11% of mums spent more than £10 on gifts. This year, 52% of babies will get presents worth more than a tenner. New mums will in fact be spending an average of £84 on their newborns.

So who wins out - toddlers or teens? Step forward lucky (or demanding) teenagers. While teens are due to get gifts worth an average of £182, toddlers get around £115 spent on them. We bet it’s all those iPods, PS3 games and Blu Rays!

An extremely lucky 9% of children will have over £300 worth of presents to open on Christmas morning! (Poor Santa having to carry all of these gifts in his sleigh!)

Unsure how much to spend on your child? MFM found that these are the average mum’s spend depending on age:

  • Under 1 – £82
  • 1 year old - £92
  • 2 years old - £101
  • 3 years old - £ 115
  • 4 years old - £118
  • 5 years old - £134
  • 6 years old - £160
  • 7 years old - £131
  • 8 years old - £175
  • 9 years old - £151
  • 10 years old - £189
  • 11 years old - £157
  • 12 years old - £170
  • Teenagers - £182

Do you match up to the average spending habits, or do you spend more or less? Let us know below…
