Portugese Man O’ War jellyfish found on West Country beaches
UK beachgoers are being warned to look where they tread and swim after jellyfish with powerful stings were found on British beaches.
Usually found in more exotic waters, two Portugese Man O’ War jellyfish were washed up between Bantham and Bigbury in Devon. A further eight were found on Tregantle beach in Cornwall.
Blaming strong winds, this is the third year these creatures have been spotted on UK shores. The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) have advised any families visiting the Devon or Cornwall beaches, to keep an eye out and not to touch the creatures. “If you get stung, don’t panic, but seek urgent medical advice.”
