In the countdown to the London 2012 Paralympics, Team GB’s athletes will be undergoing rigorous training regimes to boost their chances of success.
Luckily, swimmers Nyree and Sasha Kindred have a secret weapon to help them go for gold – their 14-month-old daughter, Ella.
The couple, who between them already have 20 Paralympic medals, have revealed that their daughter inspires them to do well and is their “alarm clock” to wake them up for training.
Nyree, who qualified for the 100m backstroke just eight months after giving birth said, "It will be great for me to walk out for my race and just look up into crowd and see my daughter there.”
Sasha, who will be competing in four events also spoke of his “number one fan”, saying, "Ella's been really good. I think she's a baby that knows we are athletes. She gives us a good night's sleep and is sort of our alarm clock to get us up for training."
The proud parents may be hoping that Ella follows them into the world of professional sports, and have been taking her to swimming lessons since she was three months old.
Speaking of his inspiration to compete, Sasha added, “We want to give our best performance to make her proud so in the future she can say 'my mummy and daddy swam at the Paralympic Games in London, at the home Games' and she can be proud of what we've done."
