Turn up every day and win your parents a £40 Indian curry meal, offers school
A school in Southampton, Hampshire, is offering parents the chance to win a £40 meal at a local Indian restaurant by encouraging their children to turn up to school each day.
The prize is open to children who turn up to more than 95% of their classes, and since it was introduced, truancy rates at the school have dropped by half.
The school is delighted by the results, but teaching union NASUWT claims the offer is tantamount to bribery. “It is a legal requirement to bring your children to school,” said a union rep. “But this gives out the message that you don’t do anything in life unless there’s a reward.”
