Government recommendations say TV affects language development
Children shouldn’t watch television until they turn two because it can affect their language development and ability to concentrate.Government recommendations in Australia also say youngsters aged two to five should only watch one hour of television a day.The new guidelines are intended to stop the spread of the country’s obesity epidemic. “Screen time may reduce the amount of time they have for active play, social contact with others and chances for language development,” said a draft copy of the guidelines. “It may also affect the development of a full range of eye movement and reduce the length of time they can stay focused.”The Australian government said the guidelines were still being finalised.
