A teacher in New York helps her school children Tweet about their day – but when it comes to their followers, it's pretty exclusive
Twitter might have a huge celebrity cult following, with the likes of Stephen Fry, Lady Gaga and, er, Jedward, harnessing its PR power. But now savvy Kindergarten kids from a New York school, Public School 150, have joined the social media site too.
The kids’ teacher Jennifer Aaron helps her pupils compile a single 140 character Tweet that sums up their day, three times a week. Ms Aaron said it’s great for kids to reflect on what they’ve learned, otherwise when asked what they’ve done that day they often say, “I don’t know.”
The class Tweets from @JensClass, but Ms Aaron is careful about security. The account itself is locked and only confirmed followers have access to the Tweets. Even the one person they follow is hidden from prying eyes.
Before projecting the Twitter account up onto the Smartboard, Ms Aaron closes any windows with suggestions of who to follow in case they’re inappropriate. US TV and radio host Ryan Seacrest was reportedly vetoed for being “difficult to explain”, the New York Times reports.
PS 150’s dedicated 34 family followers apparently have a right hoot following their kids’ Tweets. One Tweet is said to have confirmed they’d not spent the day doing “lame reflections.” Good to know!
